South Dakota State volleyball is one of 32 teams that will play in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship and is set to take on Louisiana Friday afternoon in Edinburg, Texas in the opening round. If the Jackrabbits win Friday they will advance to play the winner of UTRGV/Houston Christian Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Jackrabbits are 17-14 on the year. They most recently fell to Denver 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Summit League tournament. Louisiana is 15-12 overall. The Ragin' Cajuns most recently lost 3-1 in the second round of the Sun Belt's conference tournament.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State volleyball enters the national postseason scene at 17-14 overall in 2022.
- This is SDSU's first appearance in the NIVC and second national postseason appearance of the Division I era. The Jacks' only other national postseason experience was an NCAA opening-round loss to Nebraska in 2007.
- The Jacks went 7-1 in November. They ended their regular season on a seven-match win streak before falling to Denver in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League tournament.
- SDSU takes on Louisiana (15-12) in Friday's opening round on the campus of UTRGV. This is the first ever meeting between the programs.
- South Dakota State has secured back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in the Jacks' Division I history.
- Crystal Burk and Masa Scheierman were recognized with all-conference honors early last week. Burk was a first-team all-Summit selection while Scheierman was named to the all-freshman team.
- As of Thursday, Crystal Burk ranks fourth in the country in total attacks (1,521) and fifth in total kills (553) and total points (613.5). She is 11th in the nation in attacks per set (12.37) and 12th in kills per set (4.50).
- Burk ranks highly on a number of charts in SDSU's record book. She became SDSU's single-season kills leader in the final week of the regular season.
- Raegen Reilly has dished 1,228 total assists this season, which ranks 17th in the country. She became SDSU's single-season assists leader against Denver during the Summit League Tournament.
- As a team, SDSU ranks 15th nationally in total team attacks (4,451) and 16th in total digs (1,974).
