South Dakota State takes on Northern Iowa for the 16th time in the series' history Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena.
The teams last met a season ago in Cedar Falls with the Panthers winning 59-50. UNI put up 12 points in the final 3:40 of that contest and held SDSU scoreless in the same stretch to pull off the win. Northern Iowa last visited Frost in the 2020-21 season. The Jackrabbits won that contest 74-63.
The Jackrabbits are 4-4 this year and most recently went 0-2 on a roadtrip to Washington State and Montana State. Northern Iowa is 4-2 on the season. The Panthers went 2-0 with wins over Tulane and Vanderbilt at the Cancun Challenge last week.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State returns home to Frost Arena following five consecutive games on the road, the team's longest road stretch of the season. The Jacks are 4-4 on the year.
- SDSU most recently went 0-2 during a two-game roadtrip to Washington State and Montana State. Prior to the trip out west, the Jackrabbits topped then-No. 4/10 Louisville 65-55 in the team's final game of the Battle 4 Atlantis. It was SDSU's first win over a top-10 opponent since moving to Division I in the 2004-05 season.
- Seniors Myah Selland and Paiton Burckhard are quickly climbing SDSU's career scoring chart. Selland ranks sixth with 1,720 career points and Burckhard ranks 11th with 1,485 career points. Selland is 27 points from moving into the top five. Burckhard recently passed Kristin Rotert on the list and is 77 points from reaching the top 10. The Jacks' senior class brings a wealth of experience and talent into its final season. Paiton Burckhard leads the nation in career games played (138), Dru Gylten ranks third nationally in career assists (575) and Myah Selland ranks 13th in career field goals (640) and 17th in career points (1,720).
- Myah Selland leads the Jackrabbits in scoring (14.8 PPG), rebounds (6.4 RPG), assists (3.3 APG) and steals (1.4 SPG).
- Haleigh Timmer also contributes double figures for the Jacks, 10.0 points per game, while Paiton Burckhard and Tori Nelson chip in 9.0 points per game apiece.
- Kallie Theisen averages 7.1 points per game, ranking fifth on the team, and leads the Jacks with a .576 field goal percentage. She is second in rebounding with 6.3 boards per contest.
