ST. PAUL, Minn. - South Dakota State women's basketball moved to 19-8 on the season and 15-1 in the Summit League Saturday with an 83-42 victory over St. Thomas at Schoenecker Arena. The Jackrabbits were paced by
Myah Selland's 24 points, her second consecutive 20-point game.
St. Thomas scored the first three points of the game before an 11-0 Jackrabbit run over the next four minutes. The Tommies ended the drought with a 3-pointer at the 3:54 mark and outscored SDSU 9-4 over the remainder of the quarter to trail by just three, 15-12, after 10 minutes. The Tommies battled back to tie the game at 18 apiece early in the second quarter before another run by SDSU gave the Jacks a 37-22 lead at halftime.
SDSU put up 13 of the first 15 points of the second half, stretching its lead to 26 three minutes into the third quarter, and was able to cruise to its 19th win of the year.
Selland's 24-point outing came on 9-for-15 shooting with four 3-pointers. She also grabbed four rebounds and gave out three assists. Selland was followed by a 17 points from
Tori Nelson, a season high for the sophomore, to go with six rebounds.
Paiton Burckhard tallied seven rebounds and five assists for the Jackrabbits, both game highs, and chipped in six points.
Haley Greer and
Tylee Irwin had two steals each.
As a team, State posted a .508 clip from the floor and knocked down 10 3-pointers on 48 percent shooting. The Jacks pulled down 41 rebounds, compared to 22 by the Tommies, and had 15 second chance points on 14 offensive boards.
The Tommies were 33 percent from the field with four 3-point baskets. Jade Hill had 11 points to lead the Tommies' scoring while Erin Norling had six rebounds.
