The South Dakota State's men's and women's track and field teams travel to three different meets for competition this weekend, with athletes heading to Nebraska, North Dakota State and South Dakota
The largest contingent of Jackrabbit student-athletes is slated to compete at the Bison Open in Fargo, North Dakota. Multi-event competition is slated for an 11 a.m. start at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility, followed by field events at 3 p.m. and running events at 6:30 p.m. The heptathlon resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday with running events starting at noon and field events at 1 p.m.
SDSU also will send student-athletes to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska, Friday and Saturday, as well as the USD Alumni Meet in Vermillion on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT: Cailee Peterson broke the SDSU school record for the women's mile run as South Dakota State track and field teams competed at the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Jan. 29.

Peterson, a junior from Mayville, North Dakota, crossed the finish line in 4:46.15 in the mile run to better the previous record set by Rachel King in 2018.
Jessica Christoffer also took third in the event in a career-best 4:57.26.

Caitlin Bright finished in third place in the 3000-meter run with a career-best time of 10:00.37.

In the 800-meter run, three Jackrabbits placed in the top five, led by
Tori Glazier's second place finish in 2:16.85.
Jaide Geurts took fourth in 2:17.06 and
Claire Beckman took fifth in 2:17.52.

Cerington Jones finished in fifth place in her first career 400-meter dash in 57.64 seconds while
Rich-Ann Archer took third in the 60-meter dash in 7.53 seconds.

On the men's side,
Jared Wipf won the 60-meter dash in 6.80 seconds, a personal best and third-fastest time in school history.

Thailan Hallman took fifth in the 400-meter dash in 50.15 seconds, which tied his career best.
Â
Jackrabbits dominated in the men's mile and 3,000-meter runs. Four runners from SDSU placed in the top six in the mile, led by Tom Breuckman's second-place finish in a career-best 4:05.99 that places him fifth on the all-time list.
Josh Becker took third in 4:10.35 for a personal best,
Gabe Peters finished in fifth place in 4:10.39 for a career best and
Daniel Burkhalter took sixth in 4:10.75.

In the 3,000-meter run, three Jacks placed in the top six.
Max Selbach finished as runner-up in a career-best 8:24.28,
Ben Anteau took fourth in 8:33.25 in his first career race in the event and
Cormick Logue crossed the finish line in 8:40.13 for a career best and sixth place.

Dominick Etherington continued his success in the shot put, earning fourth place with his throw of 55-01.00.Â
WIPF HONORED:Â South Dakota State'sÂ
Jared Wipf was named TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
A freshman from Tea, Wipf won the 60-meter dash in 6.80 seconds at the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Jan. 29. His time was a career best and the third-fastest time in school history.
Wipf is the third Jackrabbit honored with a Summit League weekly award this season, joiningÂ
Reid Pierzinski (Dec. 7) andÂ
Trent Francom (Jan. 25).
REGIONAL RANKINGS:Â The second Division I indoor track and field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men dropping to No. 19 in the Midwest Region as the SDSU women fell to the 23
rd spot.
MEN TIED FOR SECOND, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL:Â The Jackrabbits were picked in a tie for second place in the men's division and third place on the women's side in the preseason indoor track and field poll announced by Summit League officials in December. North Dakota State is the favorite in both the men's and women's classifications, followed by South Dakota.

Joseph Minor-Williams took first in the 5K.Â
Rich-Ann Archer rounded out the top finishes by winning the 60-meter dash title on the women's side.

Thomas Breuckman • Jr | Distance | Andover, Minn.
- Competed in multiple distance replays during the 2021 indoor season
- Claimed double gold medals at the Summit League Indoor Championships (mile run, 3,000 meters)
Trent Francom • Sr. | Pole Vault | Huron
- Broke the school pole vault record twice and achieved a new PR of 18-00.50 during the season.
- Placed third at the indoor championships
- Earned a trip to the NCAA Championships, where he finished 10th Â
Leah Hansen • So. | Distance | Willmar, Minn.
- Won double silver medals at the league indoor championships in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters
- Both times at the championships currently rank second fastest all-time in SDSU history in their respective events
Annie Wendt • So. | Jumps | Rochester, Minn.
- Tied personal best in long jump with a leap of 19-02.00 at league championships for the silver medal
- Currently sits eighth on the SDSU triple jump record list at 38-03.50
A LOOK AHEAD:Â The Jackrabbits will return home to host the SDSU Indoor Classic at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Feb. 11 and 12. Â Competition is tentatively scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
