SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - Jackrabbit softball moved to 11-7 on the season Saturday with a pair of wins on day one of the Santa Barbara Spring Break Bash. SDSU beat Sacred Heart 8-3 in the first contest of the day and then shutout Santa Barbara 4-0 in the afternoon game.
Three Jackrabbits tallied three hits each on the day -
Peyton Daugherty,
Jocelyn Carrillo and
Emma Osmundson. Daugherty paced the group with a .750 batting average, .800 on-base percentage and 1.500 slugging percentage.
Tori Kniesche and
Grace Glanzer picked up one win each in the circle, both tossing complete games.
Game 1 vs. Sacred Heart - W, 8-3
The Jackrabbits got the bats going in game one, notching 12 hits for eight runs to beat the Pioneers. Osmundson knocked three hits against Sacred Heart while
Allison Yoder and
Lindsey Culver recorded two RBIs each to lift the Jacks to victory.
After the Pioneers struck first with a home run in the opening frame, SDSU put up three runs in the second and one in the fourth to take the lead. With two runners on, Yoder reached base on an error, allowing Osmundson and
Mia Jarecki to go home. Later that inning,
Rozelyn Carrillo singled to plate Yoder for the 3-1 score.
Brooke Dumont took advantage of a fielding error in the fourth to make it a 4-1 game.
Following another Sacred Heart score in the fourth, the Jacks got four more runs in the bottom half of the frame - one apiece from Yoder,
Cheyanne Masterson,
Rozelyn Carrillo and Culver.
Glanzer tossed all seven innings of the win, improving to 4-3 on the season. She struck out six batters and walked one.
Game 2 at UC Santa Barbara - W, 4-0
Daugherty opened the UC Santa Barbara game with a leadoff triple, her first of the season and seventh of her career. A sacrifice fly from
Rozelyn Carrillo sent Daugherty home with the winning run.
After three more scoreless innings, SDSU added two more runs in the fifth. Masterson led off the inning with a home run to double the lead, followed by an RBI double from Daugherty to score
Jocelyn Carrillo. Culver was walked to open the sixth inning and advanced to third after a pair of wild pitches. Masterson drove Culver home with a sacrifice pop out to round out the scoring.
Kniesche struck out five batters and did not give up any walks in her seven innings of work. She allowed only three hits.
NOTES
- Masterson's homer is the third of the season and eighth of her career.
- 12 hits in game one is two shy of the Jackrabbits' season high.
- The Jackrabbits have shutout four opponents this season.
