SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - A pair of home runs was the difference for the South Dakota State Sunday in a 2-0 performance at the Santa Barbara Spring Break Bash.
Cylie Halvorson and
Allison Yoder belted game-winning homers to push SDSU to 4-0 on the weekend and 13-7 overall.
Game 1 vs. Princeton - W, 3-0
Halvorson's second-inning homer drove in the only runs of the Jackrabbits' 3-0 win over Princeton. Halvorson blasted her sixth home run of the season, plating
Lindsey Culver and
Cheyanne Masterson.
Tori Kniesche had another strong performance in the circle for the Jackrabbits to improve to 7-3 on the season. The sophomore tossed her second complete-game shutout in as many days and fanned 12 batters, matching her career high. Kniesche and the SDSU defense put the Tigers down in order in each of the first three frames.
Halvorson went 3-for-3 with all three RBIs.
Peyton Daugherty and
Kelsey Lenox added two more hits apiece.
Game 2 at UC Santa Barbara - W, 2-1
Allison Yoder was the hero for the Jackrabbits in game two, dropping a two-run bomb in the seventh inning to give SDSU the lead. With SDSU down 0-1, Yoder entered the game as a pinch hitter and wasted no time making a difference, connecting on the first pitch and sending the ball over the left field fence.Â
The Gauchos led for the majority of the game, scoring an unearned run in the first frame. SDSU's most dangerous inning outside the seventh was the sixth, where the Jacks stranded two runners.
Grace Glanzer picked up her second win of the weekend, pushing her to 5-3 on the season. The sophomore struck out six and did not give up an earned run in her seven innings of work.
Emma Osmundson went 3-for-4, the only multi-hit Jackrabbit of the game.
