LOS ANGELES, Calif. - South Dakota State softball wrapped up its spring break trip with a 10-0 record Thursday, taking a pair of games from Loyola-Marymount. The Jackrabbits run-ruled the Lions 11-1 in the first game before winning game two 5-4 in extra innings.
Kelsey Lenox provided game two's winning hit in the top of the ninth frame, knocking a single to center field to plate a speedy
Peyton Daugherty from second base. SDSU's defense handled the Lions in the bottom half of the frame to seal the win.
The first seven innings of the game went back-and-forth with neither team ever leading by more than two runs. Lenox notched the first RBI of game, another hit to send Daugherty home, for the 1-0 lead. LMU responded with a pair of runs in the third to take over the lead 2-1.
SDSUÂ went back on top in the fourth behind RBIs from
Brooke Dumont and
Allison Yoder. With
Rozelyn Carrillo on first base, Dumont doubled to right to send Carillo back around to tie the game at 2-2. Yoder singled on the next at-bat, scoring Dumont.
Lindsey Culver hit an RBI double in the fifth, scoring
Cylie Halvorson, to add one more run to SDSU's lead.
LMU came back to tie the game at 4-4 with a run in both the the fifth and sixth innings, setting up Lenox's ninth-inning heroics.
Daugherty, Lenox and Dumont each recorded two hits in game one.
Grace Glanzer threw all nine innings and struck out six batters. Glanzer is now 8-3 this season.
The Jackrabbits earned the game-one victory by run-rule in six innings. After three scoreless frames, the Jacks broke the game open with three runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and four in the sixth. Carrillo had three RBIs on two hits to pace the offense. Culver went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Tori Kniesche earned the win in game one, striking out 10 and allowing no walks. She moves to 9-3 on the season.
