OMAHA - One swing was all
Mia Jarecki needed.
With the Jackrabbits trailing 1-3 in the sixth inning of game two at Omaha Saturday the freshman took her first swing of the afternoon and launched a game-winning grand slam over the right field fence. The go-ahead homer propelled the Jacks to a 5-3 lead after six frames and the eventual 6-3 victory.
Jarecki was serving as a pinch hitter for South Dakota State and stepped into the box for the first time of the day. After watching a ball and a strike go by, the Papillion, Nebraska native saw one she liked and took the game-winning swing. The homer plated
Jocelyn Carrillo,
Lillie Filger and
Rozelyn Carrillo.
Rozelyn Carrillo reached base early in the inning with a single up the middle.
Cheyanne Masterson reached on a throwing error on the next at-bat and was replaced by Filger to pinch run. Mia Elliot also pinch hit, drawing the walk to load the bases before
Jocelyn Carrillo reentered to run, setting up Jarecki's heroic two-out hit.
In addition to Jarecki's four RBIs
Kelsey Lenox and
Jocelyn Carrillo had one apiece.
Emma Osmundson recorded two of the Jackrabbit's eight hits in game two. She was the only Jackrabbit with multiple hits in the contest.
Grace Glanzer tossed the first five innings and picked up the win.
Tori Kniesche relieved Glanzer for the final two frames and struck out four of the six batters she faced.
The Jackrabbits fell 2-0 in the first game of the day. Omaha picked up an unearned run in the opening inning before a home run in the fifth. The Jacks stranded three runners in scoring position in game one.
Lindsey Culver had two hits.
Despite striking out 10 batters, Kniesche is tagged with the loss. She allowed only one earned run.
