HARRINGTON, Del. — South Dakota State's Natalie Gydesen was honored Wednesday night as the ECAC Equestrian Rider of the Year for Reining during an awards ceremony and banquet on the eve of the start of the conference championships.

A junior from North Loup, Nebraska, Gydesen compiled a 9-1 record in head-to-head competition during the 2021-22 regular season and averaged 69.8 points over her 10 rides. She tallied a season-high 76.5 points as the Jackrabbits recorded an upset victory over TCU in October.

Gydesen was joined on the ECAC Equestrian All-Conference Reining Team by Southern Methodist's Chalyce Head and Delaware State's Aidan Stetzer and Grace Wilson.

South Dakota State is seeded fifth in the ECAC Championships and will face fourth-seeded UC Davis in the opening round of team head-to-head competition at 10:15 a.m. Eastern Time (9:15 a.m. Central) on Thursday. Competition runs through Saturday at Quillen Arena located at the Delaware State Fairgrounds.
