South Dakota State hosts Drake Thursday night in the third round of the WNIT. Thursday's meeting will be the sixth all-time meeting between the programs with SDSU holding a 3-2 edge in the series.
The Jackrabbits are playing in their fifth WNIT and are 9-4 all-time in the tournament. This is the third time the squad has advanced to the third round.
The Jackrabbits are 25-9 on the year after beating Minnesota at Frost in the second round of the tournament. This is the 11th straight 20+ win season for Coach Aaron Johnston and South Dakota State. Johnston has won 25+ games with the Jacks 11 times in his career and eight time in the Division I era.
Myah Selland scores 13.6 points per game to lead the balanced SDSU offense. She is joined in double figures by Paiton Burckhard (11.1 PPG), Tori Nelson (10.5) and Paige Meyer (10.4). Selland also contributes 5.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists on average. Burckhard paces the Jackrabbits on the glass, tallying 5.6 rebounds per contest, and adds 2.1 assists per game. Kallie Theisen blocks 1.2 shots a night. Meyer is the Jackrabbits' assists (4.1 APG) and steals (1.2 SPG) leader. She ranked second in the Summit League in field goal percentage and assists and and third in assists/turnover ratio.
Drake is 20-13 on the year and went 9-9 in the Missouri Valley regular season. The Bulldogs defeated Mizzou 83-78 in overtime in the first round of the WNIT and then UNI 62-55 in the second round.
Drake is led by Megan Meyer and Maggie Bair, who each score 12.1 points per game. Grace Berg also averages double figures, 11.3 points per game. Bair grabs 6.0 rebounds on average and Anna Miller adds 5.6 boards per game. Katie Dinnebier averages 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals, both team highs.
