South Dakota State continues the Summit League season with a trip to Vermillion this weeken to take on the Coyotes in a three-game series.
The Jackrabbits are 21-8 on the year and 2-1 in Summit League play. SDSU had its 11-game winning streak snapped in a 2-0 loss at Omaha on March 26 to open league action, but came back to win the final two games of the series by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. The series marked a rematch of the 2021 Summit Softball Championship title series won by the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State leads the Summit League in batting average (.290), ERA (2.46), home runs (32), and slugging percentage (.464).
SDSU's pitching staff is holding opponents to a .225 batting average, which ranks second among Summit League teams.
Tori Kniesche tops the league in strikeouts with 124 and ranks second in in ERA at 1.86.
Grace Glanzer's 10 wins are tied for the league lead and her 2.46 ERA ranks fifth.
KEY STORYLINES
- The Jackrabbits are 23-2 in Summit League games over the past two seasons.
- Tori Kniesche took the loss in the series opener at Omaha, but came back to record a save in each of the final two games. Kniesche struck out 17 batters in 10.1 innings and allowed only one earned run.
- Lindsey Culver enters the weekend on a 10-game hitting streak. Culver is batting .485 (16-for-33) with four doubles, a triple, three home runs and 14 runs batted in over that span
- Rozelyn Carrillo continues to lead the Jackrabbits at the plate with a .351 batting average and 33 hits on the season. Her 19 RBIs rank third on the team.
- Three other Jacks are hitting above .300 - Lindsey Culver (.348), Emma Osmundson (.337) and Peyton Daugherty (.302).
- SDSU was shut out for only the second time this season in the series opener at Omaha. The Jacks were first blanked March 4 at Nebraska.
- Freshman infielder Mia Jarecki was the hero in the Jackrabbits' 6-3 victory in the second game of a March 26 doubleheader, hiting a pinch-hit go-ahead grand slam in the top of the sixth. Jarecki homered again the next day in SDSU's 6-0 series-clinching win.
- Lindsey Culver has posted nine multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games this season. Emma Osmundson and Peyton Daugherty share the team lead with 10 mutli-hit games..
- Cylie Halvorson's eight home runs leads the team and rank secon in The Summit League. She also has a team-high 25 RBIs.
- Tori Kniesche is 9-4 on the year with a 1.86 ERA. She has struck out 10+ batters in seven of her 17 appearances this season.
- Tori Kniesche is averaging 1.44 strikeouts per inning and 10.05 strikeouts per seven innings.
- Grace Glanzer was the winning pitcher in each of the last two games of the Omaha series to improve to 10-3 on the season. She has a 2.46 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 85.1 innings pitched.
- SDSU returns all nine all-Summit players from a season ago, including Player of the Year Cylie Halvorson, Pitcher of the Year Tori Kniesche and Freshman of the Year Grace Glanzer.
- The Jackrabbits were picked to repeat as Summit League Champs after going 21-1 to win the regular season and also claimed the Summit League tournament title for the first time in program history.
