TULSA, OKLAHOMA – South Dakota State will journey south to Oral Roberts University for the 2022 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships set to kick off on Thursday.

The first day of action begins with track events at 8 a.m., multi-events at 10 a.m. and field events at 11 a.m. Multis return on Friday at 10 a.m. while the competition on the field resumes at 2 p.m. and the track returns at 4:30 p.m. Saturday will begin at 11 a.m. on the field and 12:20 p.m. on the track.

Five SDSU athletes look to defend their 2021 outdoor league titles:
Joseph Minor-Williams (10,000-meter run),
Reid Pierzinski (400-meter hurdles),
Oksana Johnson (800-meter run),
Leah Hansen (5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run) and
Annie Wendt (long jump).

LAST TIME OUT: The South Dakota State University men's and women's track and field teams put on a show at the USD Twilight meet in their final competition before the league championships.

On top of multiple top 10 finishes, five Jackrabbits won their respective events, starting off with
Nicole Greyer, who won the 1500-meter run in a personal-best 4:38.67.
Kasey Klocek also took 10
th in the race, crossing the line in 4:51.88.

Caitlin Bright took the champion crown in her first ever 3000-meter steeplechase, grabbing a personal-best time of 11:12.63.
Â
Jaiden Boomsma won the long jump with a career-best leap of 19-04.00, which is now tied for the fourth best mark in school history.
Annie Wendt (18-03.75) took fourth and
Shae Campbell (18-02.50) finished fifth in the same event.

In other events on the women's side,
Brielle Dixon took third in 14.22 seconds for a PR in the 100-meter hurdles, followed just behind by
Savannah Risseeuw in fourth in 14.24 seconds.

Additionally,
Katelyn Darnell (15.80) earned tenth and
Elizabeth Gillingham (16.08) took 11
th.

Cerington Jones sped her way into fifth place in the 200-meter dash in 24.97 seconds for a new PR while
Ashtyn Bertram also earned a personal best in 25.14 seconds for sixth place.

Laura Bogue took scored a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with her personal-best time of 1:05.73.

Emily Rystrom grabbed eighth place in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.00 as
Paige Kuchel 11
th in 1:03.88 for a PR.

Jaide Geurts led a pack of SDSU runners in the 800-meter run, claiming fifth place in 2:13.98.
Tori Glazier earned eighth in 2:16.58 while
Grace Waage nabbed 10
th with a time of 2:17.90.

Bridget Henne earned fourth place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:20.92.

In the triple jump,
Emma Smith took sixth with a distance of 35-04.75 for a new PR and
Sydney Mouw finished ninth with her new personal-best jump of 35-00.25.

Addison Eisenbeisz took fifth place in the high jump with a clearance of 5-05.00 while
Ciara Benson finished ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 111-03.00 for a new career best.

Two Jacks placed in the top 10 of the discus throw, led by a seventh place finish from
Kennedy Morris (140-03.75).
Marianne Robin (135-05.75) followed close behind for ninth place.

Naomi Wynn earned sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 177-05.50 for a new personal best as
Faith Leiseth took fifth in the shot put with her throw of 45-11.25.

Ben Anteau won the men's 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:09.77 for a new career best.
Â
Tristen Hanna was the final champion for SDSU, winning the triple jump with a new career-best distance of 48-03.50.
Tyler Goehring took third with a 45-09.00, also for a PR.

Other top 10 finishes by the men started with
Jake Werner's fifth place finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.76 seconds.
Jared Wipf scored a PR in 10.78 seconds for sixth as
Evan Henderson clocked a personal-best 10.88 for eighth place.

Pierre Lear claimed second place in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.21 seconds while
Andrew Law finished ninth in 15.87 seconds.

Werner also finished as runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 21.68 seconds for a personal best as Henderson clocked a 22.18 for sixth place.

Riley Bauer led a group of Jacks in the 400-meter dash, earning a PR in 49.37 seconds for fourth place.
Thailan Hallman (49.66) took fifth, Kudra Nzibariza (49.83, PR) finished sixth,
Matthew Stahl (49.99, PR) was eighth and
Max Ceplecha (50.25, PR) nabbed 10
th.

Tegan Bock finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in a career-best 55.62 seconds and
Braxton Karnik grabbed sixth in 56.65 seconds also for a PR.

Andrew Moeller clocked a 1:54.86 in the 800-meter run for a solid seventh place finish.

Noah Stewart grabbed a runner-up finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:58.60 as
Nathan Notgrass earned sixth in 4:04.26 for a PR.
Â
Reggie Slaba, Hallman, Werner and Bock teamed up for the 4x400-meter relay and earned fourth place in 3:27.19.

Hunter Wallster led a trio of Jacks in the hammer throw, taking eighth place with career-best distance of 187-10.00.
Dawson Schroeder (181-08.75) took 10
th and
Bryce Ludwig (175-09.25) was 11
th.

Austin Eppard grabbed third place in the discus throw with a distance of 171-02.50 for a PR and the eighth best mark in school history.

Dominick Etherington earned runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 57-04.25 as Schroeder took third with a 56-06.00 for a new personal best.

Daniel Clarke lept his way into third place in the long jump with a jump of 24-00.25, which ties his career best.
Tre Manning took fourth with his jump of 23-07.50.

Matthew Katz took fifth place in the pole vault with a career-best clearance of 16-06.00 as
Jaden Peters tied for sixth with his personal-best height of 16-00.25.

Finally,
Conner Powers soared his way into fourth place in the high jump with a height of 6-06.00.

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The seventh Division I outdoor track and field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbit men jumped one spot to No. 17 in the Midwest Region as the SDSU women fell to 17
th place.

SDSU MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: After winning the Summit League indoor title a month ago, the South Dakota State men's track and field team has been tabbed as the favorite during the outdoor season by the slimmest of margins in a vote among the league's coaches.

- Earned a trip to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships after placing second in the West Prelims with a mark of 17-10.50 (5.45m)
- Finished third at the 2021 Summit League Outdoor Championships with a vault of 18-00.50 (5.50m)
- Set a personal-best and school-record mark in the pole vault at the USD Early Bird meet with a mark of 18-04.75 (5.61m)
Ben Olson, South Dakota State
