BROOKINGS, S.D. – Former South Dakota State men's basketball standouts and current basketball players professionally, Mike Daum and Skyler Flatten, are each slated to compete in the Xavier Regional of The Basketball Tournament for their respective teams. Daum will represent team Sideline Cancer, while Flatten plays for team Fort Wayne Champs, with each making their debut in TBT on Monday, July 18, at Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.Â
Â
TBT was founded in 2014 and is a $1 million winner-take-all, single-elimination tournament featuring 64 teams. The teams feature some of the best players in the world that aren't on a current NBA roster. The 2022 edition of TBT began Saturday with the Rucker Park Regional.
Â
Daum will be making his third appearance in TBT and first with the Sideline Cancer team. The former three-time Summit League Player of the Year and 2019 All-American recently completed his third season of professional basketball with Derthona Basket in Italy. Â
Â
Flatten is making his first showing in TBT for the Fort Wayne Champs. A former all-Summit League performer, Flatten completed the 2021-22 season with Boras Basket in Sweden where he averaged over 15 points per game.Â
Â
Daum's Sideline Cancer squad is scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m. CT on Monday as the two-seed against seven-seed Defeat Diabetes. Flatten's Fort Wayne Champs, the five-seed in the regional, takes on four-seed Nasty Nati at 5 p.m. If their teams win their opening matchups, the regional semifinal contests take place on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m. CT. The two have the possibility of facing off in the regional title game that takes place at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday.Â
Â
Every one of the duo's games will stream on ESPN3. The winning team of the Xavier Regional advances to TBT Championship Week along with seven other regional champions. The quarterfinals begin on July 28 at the University of Dayton Arena. All TBT Championship Week games air on ESPN or ESPN2.
