JACKRABBITS SELECTED FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL

SIOUX FALLS - South Dakota State volleyball was picked to finish fifth in the Summit League volleyball preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday by the conference office. SDSU's Crystal Burk and Raegen Reilly were named players to watch.
After its best season in more than a decade that ended in the semifinal round of the Summit League tournament, the Jackrabbits collected 51 points in the preseason poll. SDSU was narrowly voted fifth, finishing only two points behind Oral Roberts' fourth-place selection.
Denver is expected to win the regular season title, garnering 75 points and six first-place votes in the poll. The Pioneers were followed by South Dakota with 74 points and three first-place votes while Omaha (68 points, one first-place vote) rounds out the top three.
Burk, a fifth-year senior, returns for her final season with the Jacks. The outside hitter became the first Jackrabbit to earn a spot on the league's first team after averaging 3.75 kills and 2.68 digs per set in conference matches as a six-rotation player. She totaled 442 kills in 2021 and surpassed the 1,000 career kill mark in the final match of the regular season. Burk's kill total, kills per set mark and attack attempts (1,269) from 2021 rank second in a single season in SDSU's Division I era. She also tallied 36 ace serves last season, which ranks first.
Reilly, a sophomore, enters her first season in Brookings after spending her freshman year at North Dakota State. The Sioux Falls native dished 788 assists for the Bison a season ago, which ranked sixth in the Summit League.

The Jackrabbits officially open the 2022 season at the Huskie Invitational Friday and Saturday in DeKalb, Illinois. The first match is slated for 10 a.m. Friday against Illinois-Chicago.
