DEKALB, Ill - South Dakota State volleyball (2-1) picked up its second straight sweep Saturday, taking down NJIT (0-3) in three sets, 25-19, 25-13, 25-11, in the team's final match of the Huskie Invitational.
SDSU outhit the Highlanders .375 to .030 and had a 44-23 advantage in kills.
Crystal Burk put away a team-high 14 kills and posted a .480 attack rate (14 kills - 2 errors - 25 attacks). She also had nine digs, one block and an ace.
Annalee Ventling-Brown made the most of her first appearance of the season, putting down eight kills while hitting .700 (8 kills - 1 error - 10 attacks). The sophomore also tallied five blocks.
Ella Thompson finished with eight kills and
Anna Nerad added five.
Setter
Raegen Reilly dished 33 assists for the Jacks and had six digs and an ace serve. Libero
Jadyn Makovicka recorded 14 digs, four assists and one ace. The Jackrabbits had a 5-1 advantage in aces, led by two from
Carly Wedel.
After going back and forth through the majority of set one, the Jackrabbits found their groove late and ended the game on a 5-1 run to win 25-19. SDSU dominated set two early on, scoring four of the first five points, and later strung together eight straight to take a 12-2 lead. The Jacks took set two 25-13. State only trailed early in set three before a 6-1 run put the Jacks up 8-5. State scored nine straight points to take a commanding 23-10 lead and finished off the match 25-11.
UP NEXT
SDSU returns to Brookings next weekend for two matches against Eastern Washington at Frost. The Jacks take on the Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday night at 11 a.m. Saturday.
