South Dakota State volleyball dropped to 2-2 on the season Friday with a five-set loss to Eastern Washington at Frost Arena (21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 16-18).
The Jackrabbits fell behind 0-2 through the first two sets but stormed back to tie the match at 2-2 before losing 18-16 in the tiebreak game.
A trio of Jackrabbit seniors contributed double-digit kills.
Crystal Burk led the way with 22 kills, followed by 11 from
Akeela Jefferson and 10 from
Anna Nerad. Three players reached double figures in digs as well. Burk and
Katie Van Egdom paced the squad with 15 digs each while
Jadyn Makovicka chipped in 14 as the libero.
Setter
Raegen Reilly gave out 50 assists, the most of her SDSU career. Nerad and
Sydney Andrews each matched their career bests in block assists with six and seven, respectively. Reilly also had five block assists and Burk added four. Nerad and Burk had one solo block each.
The Jackrabbits notched eight service aces in the match, led by three from Nerad.
Following the pair of losses to open the match, SDSU took its first lead of the contest at 4-3 in set three. The Jackrabbits strung together a 9-1 run capped off by a Nerad ace to take a 14-7 advantage. EWU pulled back to trail by just two but the Jacks ended set three with five straight points. Burk recorded two kills in the stretch,
Elyse Winter had two aces and Nerad tallied one block.
SDSU used its momentum from set three to push its way out to a 15-10 lead in set four. The Eagles came back within two but the Jackrabbits were able to hold them off the rest of the way and ended the set with three unanswered points.Â
The final set went back-and-forth with neither side scoring more than one consecutive point until EWU notched four straight with help from three SDSU attack errors. The Jackrabbits cut the deficit to one at 10-9 and battled to tie the set at 14-all with a kill and then an ace from Nerad. SDSU gained a 16-15 advantage but gave up three straight points to the Eagles to end the match.

- Crystal Burk recorded 15 digs in the match, bringing her career total to 999 digs.
- Jadyn Makovicka's 14 digs brings her career total to 967 digs. That total is split between her time at Rockhurst (829) and SDSU (138).
- SDSU is 0-2 in five-set matches this season.
