Behind 24 kills from

Masa Scheierman, South Dakota State volleyball escaped with a five-set win over defending Summit League champion Omaha Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena.
SDSU's (7-7, 1-1 Summit) scores against the Mavericks (5-7, 0-2) went 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 15-12.
The Jacks trailed 7-10 in the final set and were forced to use their final timeout following three straight points for the Mavericks. SDSU rallied out of the break, outscoring Omaha 8-2 over the final stretch for the 15-12 win.
SDSU notched two service aces in the final 8-2 run, one each by Scheierman and
Elyse Winter. As a team the Jacks put down a season-high 10 service aces in the match, including three from both Scheierman and
Ella Thompson. The Jackrabbits had a 10-5 advantage in aces. SDSU committed five serving errors compared to 12 by Omaha.Â
Burk's 24 kills came at a .357 clip, her second best hitting percentage of the season. Thompson added eight kills for the Jacks and Winter had seven.
Libero
Jadyn Makovicka had 16 digs to lead the SDSU defense.
Raegen Reilly added 14 to go with her 43 assists. Burk rounded out the double-digit contributors with 12 digs.
Sydney Andrews was a force at the net, recording eight blocks. Winter added five rejections while Burk and Thompson had three apiece.
Omaha was paced by Marriah Buss' 21 kills and Jaiden Centeno's 23 digs.
NOTES
- The Jackrabbits are 4-3 in five-set matches this season.
- This is SDSU's first win over Omaha since sweeping the Mavs during the 2020-21 spring season. SDSU was swept by UNO twice last fall.
- Thompson's three aces matches her career best while Scheierman's three aces is a new career high.
- SDSU's 10 service aces is the most in a single match since notching 10 at North Dakota State on November 18 last season.
