JACKRABBITS CLOSE TRIP WITH LOSS AT BAYLOR

WACO, Texas — The South Dakota State women's equestrian team wrapped up a three-match road swing through the state of Texas on Saturday with a 17-3 defeat at the hands of eighth-ranked Baylor.

The Jackrabbits dropped to 1-6 overall in head-to-head competition, while Baylor improved to 4-4. The Bears won all five matchups in fences, then claimed four of five points in each of the other three events.

SDSU's lone point in the jumping seat discipline was recorded in flat by Julia Werkhoven, who won her head-to-head matchup with a score of 70. Mikaela Haskins posted a team-best 77 in flat, but was defeated by event Most Outstanding Performer Annie Vorhies, who scored an 85.

In fences, Samantha Hunsecker and Ella Domenicone each tallied scores of 78, but were bested in their respective matchups.

On the Western side, Grace Blake and Cassandra Townsend were winners for the Jackrabbits. Blake turned in a team-best score of 74.5 en route to a victory in horsemanship, while Townsend came out on top of her reining matchup with a score of 72.5. Isabelle Riggs and freshman Adisyn Kuxhaus shared SDSU's top score in reining with 73 points.

UP NEXT
SDSU opens a four-competition homestand to close the regular season with a Feb. 10 date against Delaware State. Action is slated for 8 a.m. at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
