GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The South Dakota State volleyball team won its third consecutive match Thursday with a 3-1 victory over North Dakota at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. After dropping the first set 25-23, SDSU rebounded to win the next three 25-22, 28-26, 25-19.
The Jackrabbits improve to 7-16 on the season and 5-6 in the Summit League. The Hawks slip to 6-17 overall and 3-8 in conference action.
Sylvie Zgonc posted 15 kills, 12 digs and four ace serves, leading the Jackrabbits in all three categories.
Masa Scheierman also had a big night as the sophomore tallied 11 kills, seven digs, five blocks and four ace serves.
Katie Van Egdom was also in double figures, finishing with 10 kills, and added four digs, one block and one ace.
Setters
Raegen Reilly and
Rylee Martin combined for five kills. Reilly put down three kills at a .500 clip to go with 18 assists and seven digs. Martin had two kills on five attacks (.400), 14 assists and a block.
Sydni Schetnan matched Scheierman's five blocks and had four kills and four digs.
McKenna Moehrle contributed three blocks.
Stella Winterfeld and
Joslyn Richardson notched 11 digs apiece. Winterfeld also put down three aces and handed out a pair of assists.
As a team the Jackrabbits recorded 12 ace serves, which matches their overall season high and is the most in a four-set match this year.
Kaycee O'Dell had 11 kills for UND, followed by 10 kills each for Marissa Stockman and Gayle McCallister. The Fighting Hawks had a 53-47 advantage in kills, but SDSU had an edge in aces (12-8) and blocks (9-8).
NOTES
- Following the completion of all Summit League matches Thursday the Jackrabbits are sixth in the conference standings with a two-game lead over the Fighting Hawks. The top six teams qualify for the Summit League postseason tournament.Â

South Dakota State is off until next Thursday when the team travels to Fargo to take on North Dakota State.
