HATTIESBURG, Miss. — South Dakota State closes out its four-game stretch away from Brookings on Wednesday when the Jackrabbits square off with Southern Miss. Tip-off between the Jackrabbits and Golden Eagles is set for 7 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum.
Â
Both the Jacks and Golden Eagles are coming off appearances at the Jacksonville Classic. The two sides each went 0-2 on opposite sides of the bracket.Â
Â
SDSU participated in the Coast Bracket. The Jackrabbits had leads in the final minute of both matchups, but fell 83-80 to UCF on Sunday and 73-71 to Southern Miss on Monday. The Golden Eagles played in the Bay Bracket. Southern Miss lost 67-65 to Utah Valley and 74-67 to CSU Fullerton.
Â
The Jackrabbits were led by multiple standouts in the event. Against UCF,
Charlie Easley had a 21-point performance and
Luke Appel recorded 19.
Nate Barnhart also scored 11 points, his best output at SDSU. In the defeat to George Mason,
Zeke Mayo had a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds.
William Kyle III registered 14 points.
Â
Mayo's 22-point effort on Monday pushed him over the 1,000-point threshold in his college career. He became SDSU's 53rd member of its 1,000-point club. Mayo achieved the feat in 72 games played, the 19th fastest span in program history.Â

The Jackrabbits have lost three consecutive games heading into Wednesday's matchup. SDSU's longest string of defeats a season ago was four. That still matches the program's longest losing streak since 2009-10.
Â
South Dakota State travels to Hattiesburg to face a Southern Miss squad that stands at 2-3 overall. The Jacks and Golden Eagles share a common foe this season in Akron. SDSU lost to the Zips at home in the season opener (81-75), while Southern Miss fell at Akron four days later, 72-54.
