South Dakota State and No. 21 Gonzaga meet for the fourth time in the history of the series Sunday afternoon in Spokane.
The Jackrabbits hold a 3-0 all-time edge over the Zags. The last meeting came at Frost Arena in the 2020-21 season, which SDSU won with a 3-point buzzer beater, 75-72.
SDSU has won two straight and four of its last five. Most recently, the Jacks have wins over Northern Iowa (78-59) and NAIA Dordt (66-54).
Gonzaga is 10-2 on the year with four consecutive wins. The Zags beat Rice 80-72 last weekend for their most recent result.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State is 6-3 on the season and has won four of its last five games. Most recently, SDSU topped Northern Iowa on the road last Saturday and beat Dordt at home Tuesday night.
- The Jacks take on their third ranked opponent of the season in No. 21 Gonzaga. SDSU is 0-2 against ranked opponents this season and 17-38 all time (page 7). Gonzaga is the top mid-major team in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. The Jackrabbits are ranked fifth.
- Brooklyn Meyer leads the team and the Summit League in scoring (17.0 PPG), rebounding (9.8 RPG) and blocks (2.3 BPG) while ranking second in field goal percentage (.539).
- Paige Meyer is the reigning Summit League Player of the Week after averaging 23 points and 3.5 assists in two games against Washburn and Washington State. She tallied 12 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals against Dordt Tuesday.
- Paige Meyer contributes 16.7 points, 3.8 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She has tallied at least 10 points and three rebounds in all six appearances this season.
- Madison Mathiowetz is coming off back-to-back career scoring games as she put up 16 at Northern Iowa and then 21 against Dordt. She is averaging 10.0 points at a .407 clip on the season but 15.0 and .548 over the last four contests.
- Tori Nelson surpassed 1,200 career points last week and ranks 33rd all-time in SDSU history. Nelson has also recorded at least one block in every game this season and ranks fourth all-time in that category (125).
- Tori Nelson's 133 career games played ranks seventh in program history and 11th among all active NCAA players.
- As a team the Jackrabbits rank 18th nationally in blocks per game (5.4), 19th in field goal percentage defense (34.0) and 20th in 3-point percentage defense (23.5).
