South Dakota State embarks on a trip to the Lone Star State to participate in the WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational. The Jackrabbits open play in El Paso in UTEP's Don Haskins Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT when the Jacks take on Wyoming.Â

The Jackrabbits and Cowboys square off in their sixth meeting Wednesday. The two sides last met at the Cayman Islands Classic in November of 2017. Reed Tellinghuisen scored a team-high 16 points for SDSU, but 23 Jackrabbit turnovers led to 31 Wyoming points as the Cowboys came away with a 77-65 victory.Â

A season prior, Wyoming earned a 77-67 victory over SDSU in Laramie. SDSU stands at 1-4 against Wyoming with its lone victory in the all-time series coming in the 2009-10 season opener. Clint Sargent scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Jackrabbits to a 77-61 win, SDSU's first win over a DI opponent in a season opener.Â

The Jackrabbits are 6-5 overall after winning two straight games. Zeke Mayo, who led the Jacks with 25 points in the win over Wichita State on Dec. 9, paces the Jackrabbits in scoring average (19.5) rebounding (6.5) and assists (3.4). Charlie Easley, who matched his career high of 22 points in SDSU's last victory versus Mayville State, ranks fifth in the nation with five steals per game.

Wyoming is coming off a Dec. 16 home 84-71 home defeat to Weber State. The Cowboys, who are 6-4 overall, are led by double digit scorers in Sam Griffin (19.3) and Akuel Kot (16.0). They also feature Cam Manywau who average 9.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. The Cowboys are the top rated 3-point shooting team in Division I men's basketball this season with their 42.9% clip from long range.Â

Also featured in the Sun Bowl Invitational are UTEP (6-5) and Norfolk State (7-5). The Jackrabbits will play either side, depending on the result, on Thursday. SDSU has never faced the Miners or the Spartans in its program history.Â

The Jackrabbits went 0-2 in its last multi-team event appearance at the Jacksonville Classic appearance in November, but picked up a win on its way home at Southern Miss. SDSU last won a multiple-team event in 2015.
