SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State took advantage of eight hits and a solid effort from its starting pitcher in a 9-1 victory over South Dakota State to complete action at the I-35 Tournament on Sunday at Bobcat Softball Stadium.Â

The Bobcats (6-3) scored the matchup's first two runs in the first. The first came on a fielding error then an RBI single for the Bobcats made it 2-0.Â

SDSU scored its lone run in the top of the third as
Lindsey Culver hit a solo homer, her first of the season, to make it 2-1. The one-run contest lasted just a half inning as Katarina Zarate hit a two-run double to extend the Bobcat lead to 4-1.Â

Texas State scored three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to complete the run rule in five innings of play.Â

Culver led SDSU at the plate with two hits in two at bats. Also recording hits were
Mia Jarecki and
Allison Yoder. Starter
Alexa Williams took the loss after pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs on four hits and four walks.Â

Starter Tori McCann threw all five innings for the Bobcats. She gave up the four hits and struck out five Jackrabbit hitters while not giving up a walk.Â

- South Dakota State is now 8-4 this season.Â
- Williams made her first start for the Jackrabbits in circle and is now 0-2 on the season with a 2.25 ERA.
