LINCOLN, NE – The South Dakota State track and field squad started the busy weekend off with a bang—and a new school record—at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Pierre Lear continued his hot streak of running the fastest times in school history by clocking a 7.87 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims to win his heat. His mark also qualified him for the event finals, which will be run Saturday afternoon.
Brielle Dixon will also be competing again tomorrow as she earned herself a qualification to the women's 60-meter hurdle finals. She ran an 8.71 in the event prelims to take second in her heat and sixth overall.
Rich-Ann Archer made her season debut in the 60-meter dash and took runner-up in her heat in 7.71 seconds, which qualifies her for Saturday's event finals. Ashtyn Bertram and Dixon also competed in the event, taking 15th in 7.93 and 18th in 8.01, respectively.
Evan Henderson and Jared Wipf finished back-to-back in 14th and 15th place of the 60-meter dash prelims, clocking a 6.90 and a 6.91, respectively.
In the men's 400-meter dash, Thailan Hallman led the way for SDSU with an eighth place finish in 49.06. Reggie Slaba was next for the Jacks, taking 22nd in 49.91. Kudra Nzibariza took 23rd in 50.01 and Manny Phoulom-Smith was 24th with a time of 50.16.
Cerington Jones claimed fourth place in the women's 400-meter dash, clocking a 57.18. Jenna Johnson finished just behind her in fifth with a personal best time of 57.21. Erika Kuntz claimed 16th in 58.71 and Lizzy Gillingham took 20th in 59.48.
Competition will resume at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with the multi events, while running starts at 11 a.m. and field begins at noon.
The Jackrabbits will also be competing at the Iowa State Classic beginning at noon and the USD Alumni Meet starting at 11 a.m.
