BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Western Kentucky left-hander Devyn Terbrak fired a no-hitter, striking out 14 batters in the process, as the Hilltoppers completed a three-game sweep over South Dakota State in their nonconference baseball series with a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Nick Denes Field.
Â
WKU improved to 13-4 on the season, while the Jackrabbits fell to 3-8 overall.
Â
Terbrak allowed only two baserunners in the complete-game effort, issuing a walk to Adam Benes in the first inning and hitting Jordan Sagedahl with a pitch in the sixth. Terbrak struck out at least one batter in every inning except the eighth and fanned the side in both the sixth and ninth frames.
Â
The Hilltoppers gave Terbrak all the run support he would need by putting together a two-out rally in the bottom of the second. After SDSU starter Blake Kunz struck out the first two batters of the inning, Kirk Liebert dropped down a bunt single and came around to score on Camden Ross' double to right center. Brett Blomquist tallied the third consecutive hit of the inning with a single that plated Ross.
Â
Kunz would go on to strike out five and walk one over 4 2/3 innings, while Ryan Bourassa notched seven strikeouts over the final 3 1/3 innings on the mound for the Jackrabbits.
Â
WKU added an unearned run in the eighth inning for the final tally.
Â
Bloomquist led the Hilltoppers' seven-hit effort by going 2-for-2 with a walk.
