SDSU RIDERS HONORED FOR ACADEMICS

WACO, Texas — A total of 15 South Dakota State equestrian student-athletes have been honored on the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's 2023 APHA All-Academic teams and the Academic Honor Roll. The awards recognize student-athletes for their success both in the arena and in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year.

The award recipients and criteria are listed below:

APHA NCEA ALL-ACADEMIC FIRST TEAM
SDSU Honorees

Shelby Cochran, Jr., Oxford, Iowa (Western);
Rachel Darby, Sr., Rensselaer, N.Y. (Jumping Seat);
Ella Domenicone, So., Roswell, Ga. (Jumping Seat);
Callyn Fox, Sr., Center Point, Iowa (Western);
Annika Hanson, Sr., Hugo, Minn. (Western);
Mikaela Haskins, Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. (Jumping Seat);
Hannah Steele, So., Woodstock, Ga. (Jumping Seat);
Cassandra Townsend, Sr., Andover (Western);
Julia Werkhoven, Jr., Tempe, Ariz. (Jumping Seat).

Fox and Townsend were each honored for the third time on the first team, while Werkhoven was a repeat selection.

Recipients must have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of their school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides, and earned a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Samantha Hunsecker, Sr., Lansing, Kan. (Jumping Seat);
Isabelle Riggs, Sr., Alexandria (Western).

Award winners must have competed in a minimum of 60 percent of their school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides, and earned a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

SDSU Honoree

Lydia Loken, So., Gunnison, Colo. (Western).

Recipients must have competed in a minimum of 50 percent of their school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides, and earned a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.
