MEN SECOND, WOMEN THIRD AT CHAMPIONSHIPS

FARGO, ND – The South Dakota State track and field teams placed in the top three of 16 events, with four individual conference champions, in the final day of action on Saturday at the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
Competition started hot for SDSU as Jared Wipf, Reid Pierzinski, Evan Henderson and Manny Phoulom-Smith teamed up to take third place in the 4x100-meter relay with a clocking of 41.01. Their time is now the seventh fastest finish in SDSU history.
Pierre Lear sprinted his way into second place of the 110-meter hurdle finals after clocking a 14.09 for the silver medal. Ryan Benson also took seventh in the event with a 15.19.
Pierzinski defended his title in the 400-meter hurdles and once again took top prize after clocking a 51.55 for hold. Phoulom-Smith also took fourth in the event with a 54.09.
Reggie Slaba, Kudra Nzibariza, Thailan Hallman and Pierzinski clocked a 3:13.76 to take the silver medal in the men's 4x400-meter relay.
Ben Olson earned the title of Summit League Champion in the 1500-meter run after clocking an outdoor PR of 3:47.48 (eighth all-time at SDSU) as Thomas Breuckman took runner-up with a 3:47.86.
SDSU domination continued in the event as Daniel Burkhalter (3:49.29) was fourth, Carter Knaus (3:49.96) claimed fifth and Eli Salisbury (3:50.95) finished seventh.
Joseph Minor-Williams was crowned champion of the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:21.01 as Cody Larson took runner-up in 14:25.40. Also in the top 10 were Olson (fourth, 14:32.86) and Max Selbach (ninth, 14:52.08).
Ethan Fischer claimed runner-up in the discus with a personal best throw of 174-08.00, now the fourth best mark in school history. Noah Jessup also finished in the top ten with a 145-11.00 for eighth place.
Max Keefer leaped his way into third place of the triple jump with a personal best mark of 46-04.00 for bronze while Tristen Hanna (46-03.25) took fourth and Tre Manning (44-10.75) finished sixth.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Cerington Jones, Jenna Johnson, Rich-Ann Archer and Jaiden Boomsma then ran a 47.17 for the bronze medal in the event.
Johnson, Erika Kuntz, Hannah Whitbread and Lauren Van Dyke took third place in the 4x400-meter relay with the tenth fastest time in school history (3:47.58).
Jones then earned Summit League runner-up in the 400-meter dash after clocking a 54.42 for silver. Van Dyke (55.53, outdoor PR) was fifth and Johnson (56.14) came seventh.
Tori Glazier earned a spot on the medal stand after taking third in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:10.88, which is now tenth in SDSU history. Claire Beckman also took seventh in the event with a 2:15.32.
Leah Hansen grabbed her second Summit League title of the weekend by winning the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:48.42. Caitlin Bright was ninth with a 17:25.53, Mya Kizer came 10th in 17:30.64 and Grace Waage clocked a personal best (17:48.87).
Faith Leiseth also scored her second medal of the championships after taking home bronze in the discus with her throw of 144-04.00. Mildred Young (fifth, 142-06.00), True Thorne (sixth, 139-08.00) and Marianne Robin (tenth, 132-10.00) also finished in the top 10 of the event.
The SDSU men finished second in the team standings with 205.5 points while NDSU won the champion with 239 points and USD finished third with 159.5 points.
NDSU also came first on the women's side, scoring 253.83 points. USD took second with 240.5 points and SDSU finished third with 120.33 points.
In other events, Wipf competed in the finals of both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Hallman ran a 47.93 in the men's 400-meter dash to take fourth place as Slaba finished sixth with a 49.01.
Breuckman claimed eighth place in the men's 800-meter run finals after running a 1:56.86.
Matthew Katz finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 16-04.50 while Jaden Peters took sixth with a personal best 16-04.50, which is now seventh all-time at SDSU.
Jaiden Boomsma took seventh place overall in the 100-meter dash finals with a clocking of 12.32 while in the 200-meter dash, Cerington Jones (25.13) and Rich-Ann Archer. (25.47) finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
In the women's 1500-meter run, Grace Waage took sixth place with a time of 4:34.12 as Nicole Greyer finished eighth with a 4:36.77.
Savannah Risseeuw finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdle finals with a time of 1:09.79 while Annie Wendt finished in 10th place of the triple jump with her mark of 38-04.00.
UP NEXT: Should SDSU have any qualifiers for the NCAA West Regional Prelims, athletes will compete in Sacramento, California May 24 to 27.
