South Dakota State travels to Flagstaff, Arizona to take on Northern Arizona Wednesday in the first of two Big Sky-Summit League Challenge contests this week. This is the first meeting between these teams all-time.
Northern Arizona enters the contest 9-3 on the season with five consecutive wins dating back to December 6. The Lumberjacks opened conference action with a 76-72 win over Northern Colorado Saturday. NAU is led by three players that average double digits - Sophie Glancey (12.9 PPG), Emily Rodabaugh (11.5 PPG) and Leia Beattie (10.5 PPG).
South Dakota State is 7-5 on the season and began its conference season with a 74-53 victory at North Dakota on New Year's Eve.
Brooklyn Meyer and
Paige Meyer average 15.3 and 13.4 points per contest, respectively.
KEY STORYLINES
- Wednesday's game will be SDSU's final of four consecutive games away from Frost Arena. The Jacks return home Saturday for the first time since December 12.
- The Jacks are 7-5 on the year with four of five losses coming to ranked teams.
- Brooklyn Meyer leads the Jackrabbits in scoring (15.3 PPG), rebounding (9.1 RPG), blocks (1.9 BPG) and field goal percentage (.514). She leads the conference in blocks and is top-four in the other three categories.
- Paige Meyer scored 13.4 points per game to go with a team-high 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals per contest.
- Madison Mathiowetz averages 9.8 points per game but put up 12.7 points per game at a .536 clip in December (the last six games).
- With an appearance Wednesday night, Tori Nelson will take sole possession of fifth place on SDSU's career games played chart with 137. She has started every game this year and in each of the previous two seasons.
- Tori Nelson scores 8.3 points per game for the Jacks and ranks second on the team in assists (2.8) and steals (1.1).
- Madysen Vlastuin plays a team-high 31 minutes per game and contributes 6.6 points on average. She is .449 from beyond the arc this year and 22 of her 28 made field goals this year have come from the 3-point line.
- SDSU's Paige Meyer and Tori Nelson were named to the Summit League's preseason first and second teams, respectively.
