South Dakota State goes back on the road to take on North Dakota State Thursday and St. Thomas Saturday in Summit League action.
The Jacks enter the weekend 5-0 in Summit League play and 16-0 overall. They are the last remaining unbeaten team in the country. SDSU beat Omaha and North Dakota at home at First Bank & Trust Arena last week.
North Dakota State is fourth in the Summit League standings with a 3-2 mark heading into Thursday's meeting. The Bison have wins over St. Thomas, Denver and Kansas City and losses to Oral Roberts and Omaha. NDSU holds a 20-79 all-time record for SDSU but the series is 4-4 in the Dan Georgalas era (since spring 2021).
St. Thomas is 11-7 on the year with a 3-3 Summit League record as of Wednesday. The Tommies host North Dakota Thursday night before Saturday's meeting with the Jackrabbits. UST enters the weekend on a three-match win streak. The Jackrabbits are 6-0 against the Tommies all-time.
KEY STORYLINES
- In terms of conference standings - No. 1 SDSU takes on No. 4 NDSU, No. 5 St. Thomas and No. 3 South Dakota over the next six days.
- Thursday's match at NDSU is one of three SDSU vs. NDSU meetings this week - soccer and voleyball Thursday in Fargo and football Saturday in Fargo.
- In a pair of wins last week, SDSU hit .279 as a team and limited itself to just 10 attack errors against UND (the lowest of the season) and 14 against Omaha (the fourth-lowest of the season).
- South Dakota State is receiving votes in the latest AVCA/Taraflex Volleyball Poll for the second consecutive week.
- SDSU's 16-0 start is the program's second-best all-time. The Jackrabbits started 20-0 during the 1975 season.
- As a team, South Dakota State ranks fourth nationally in blocks per set (2.07) and 11th in opponent hitting percentage (.147). Both marks lead the Summit.
Sydni Schetnan is hitting .463 on the season, which ranks first in the Summit League and fifth in the country. In conference games, Schetnan is hitting .543. She is the reigning Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week - Freshman Madison Burr is the conference leader and ranks 13th in the country in blocks with 1.44 per set. She is the top freshman nationally in that category.
- SDSU's offense is led by Sylvie Zgonc's 4.25 kills per set, which is first in the Summit League and 29th in the country.
- The Jackrabbits have four players averaging at least 2.0 points per set in all matches this season - Sylvie Zgonc (4.79), Sydni Schetnan (3.60), Madison Burr (2.84) and Alyssa Groves (2.13).
- The Jacks have four of the top 10 players in the Summit in blocks per set - Madison Burr (first), Sydni Schetnan (second), Alyssa Groves (seventh) and Annalee Ventling-Brown (10th).
