South Dakota State finally returns to Brookings to host the Summit League's defending regular-season winner in Kansas City Thursday night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits are coming off a 2-0 start to Summit League action with wins at Oral Roberts and Denver last week. SDSU is 13-0 on the season and one of four unbeaten teams remaining in the country. Kansas City beat North Dakota 3-1 in the Roos' lone match last week.
KEY STORYLINES
- SDSU has played the entirety of its non-conference season on the road but finally returns to Brookings to play the first-ever event at the Jacks' newly-renovated arena Thursday night.
- The Jackrabbits are one of four remaining unbeaten teams in the country, joining Pitt, San Jose State and Washington with that distinction. Of those teams, SDSU has the most wins (13).
- SDSU's 13-0 start is the program's third-best all-time and best since starting 14-0 in 2000. The Jackrabbits started 20-0 during the 1975 season.
- Sydni Schetnan is the reigning Summit League Offensive Peak Performer and was named to the NCAA's Starting Rotation of the Week Tuesday. She averaged 3.44 kills at a .652 clip to go with .89 blocks per set to open league play last week.
- Sydni Schetnan is hitting .465 on the season, which ranks first in the Summit League and ninth in the country.
- Freshman Madison Burr is the conference leader and ranks ninth in the country in blocks with 1.45 per set. She is the top freshman nationally in that category.
- As a team, SDSU is seventh nationally in blocks with 2.98 per set and 18th in opponent hit percentage - .149.
SDSU's offense is led by Sylvie Zgonc's 4.31 kills per set, which is first in the Summit League and 23rd in the country. - Sylvie Zgonc returns for her second season after Summit League First Team and Freshman of the Year honors in 2023.
- The Jacks have four of the top nine players in the Summit in terms of blocks per set - Madison Burr (first), Sydni Schetnan (third), Alyssa Groves (seventh) and Annalee Ventling-Brown (ninth).
- Rylee Martin has 20 services aces on the season, the most in the Summit League, and averages .41 per set, which ranks third.
