South Dakota State hosts its final home matches of the 2024 regular season this week at Fishback Soccer Park. The Jackrabbits take on Denver at 6 p.m. on Thursday, then complete Senior Day festivities on Sunday as SDSU faces Oral Roberts at 1 p.m.
The Jackrabbits are in a tight race in The Summit League standings as every team in the conference enters their final week of action. SDSU, with a 4-1-1 record against league foes, sits alone in second place with 13 points. North Dakota State, which defeated the Jacks 1-0 last week in Fargo, is in first place at 5-1-1 and 16 points. In contention in the conference table are Omaha (3-1-3, 12 points), Denver (3-1-2, 11) and Oral Roberts (3-1-2, 11). NDSU, SDSU, Omaha, Denver, Oral Roberts and South Dakota have already qualified for The Summit League tournament and are battling for the final seeding in it.
SDSU has already reached double-digit wins this season and hold an 11-3-2 overall mark. The Jacks have recorded at least 10 wins in 12 consecutive seasons. The Jackrabbits boast more 10-plus win seasons (14) than any other league school since 2010. Their victory achieved this past Sunday versus North Dakota represented their eighth straight year, all under
Brock Thompson, earning at least 11 wins in a campaign.
The Jacks hold an 8-2 record away from home after the victory last Sunday. The eight wins are the most in a single season by a Jackrabbit squad in program history. SDSU's previous record was a pair of seven-win road campaigns that came in 2001 (7-4) and 2022 (7-0-1)
A variety of trends stick out through 16 matches. SDSU is 9-0 this year when scoring two-plus goals, while the Jacks are 10-2-2 when holding foes to one goal or less. South Dakota State is also among the nation's best in several categories. The Jacks rank third in the country in corner kicks per game (8.44), fourth in fouls per game (5.94) and 13th in shots per game (19.44).
The Jackrabbits' foes this week in the Pioneers and Golden Eagles have plenty at stake as both are currently fourth and fifth in the conference standings. SDSU is 7-4-4 all-time against Denver, but the Pios are 2-1-1 in the last four meetings. The Jacks have a 16-1-3 record over ORU. SDSU hasn't lost to the Golden Eagles since 2015.
