South Dakota State goes back on the road to take on Omaha Thursday night at Baxter Arena and Kansas City Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Center.
The Jackrabbits enter the weekend at 20-0 with a 9-0 mark in the Summit League. With 20 wins, SDSU has set a new mark for single-season wins in the Dan Georgalas era (previous: 19 in 2021). SDSU has won 20 matches for the first time since winning 25 in 2007.
SDSU travels to second-place Omaha with a lot on the line in terms of final standings and conference tournament seeding. Omaha (9-1) has only one conference loss to date - to South Dakota State (9-0). Since falling to SDSU in Brookings on October 10, Omaha has won six straight matches, three by sweep.
Kansas City is 4-17 on the year and 2-8 in conference matches. Most recently, KC fell 3-1 to South Dakota but topped Oral Roberts, 3-0, on October 24. The Jackrabbits swept the Roos in the first match at First Bank & Trust Arena on October 3.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State continues its distinction as the only unbeaten team in the country into another week. The Jackrabbits are 20-0 overall and 9-0 in conference matches.
- SDSU's 20-0 start matches the program's best all-time and its longest win streak all-time. The Jackrabbits also started 20-0 in 1975. This is the first time the Jacks have reached 20 wins since 2007.
- SDSU travels to Omaha Thursday for a matchup with the No. 2 team in the Summit League standings. The Jacks swept Omaha in Brookings on Oct. 10
- South Dakota State is receiving votes in the latest AVCA/Taraflex Volleyball Poll for the fourth consecutive week and is No. 28 in the RPI
- Sylvie Zgonc is the reigning Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the week and was named to the NCAA Volleyball Starting Rotation of the Week Tuesday. She averaged 5.44 kills per set last week and led the Jacks to two wins.
- With 20 wins, Dan Georgalas has set a new personal best for his single-season win total as a head coach.
- As a team, South Dakota State ranks second nationally in blocks per set (3.09) behind Louisville (3.10). The Jacks are eighth in opponent hitting percentage (.148). Both marks lead the Summit.
- In conference contests, middle blocker Sydni Schetnan is first in hitting percentage (.413) and blocks per set (1.49). Madison Burr isn't far behind, ranking seventh in hitting percentage (.345) and fifth in blocks (1.20). Schetnan's overall hitting percentage, .419, is 15th in the country.
- The Jackrabbits have four players averaging at least 2.0 points per set in all matches this season - Sylvie Zgonc (4.99), Sydni Schetnan (3.51), Madison Burr (2.78) and Alyssa Groves (2.10).
- Rylee Martin ranks fifth in the Summit League with 6.51 assists per game in conference matches.
