SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota State junior
Lauren Eckerle was a standout in two Jackrabbit wins and for her efforts was named The Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Eckerle played a significant role rotation between defensive midfielder and defender over a two-match span last week. SDSU earned a pair of 1-0 victories on Thursday and Sunday against Kansas City and St. Thomas, respectively.
The Hugo, Minn., native played 81 minutes versus the Roos and 76 versus the Tommies. SDSU didn't allow a shot on goal to Kansas City, while the Jacks limited St. Thomas to just three. Eckerle added to her performance by being credited for an assist on the Jackrabbits' game-winning 82nd minute goal in St. Paul.
The weekly honor is the first of Eckerle's career. She joins teammate
Katherine Jones as weekly winners this season with Jones claiming the defensive award on Aug. 26.
South Dakota State returns to its home pitch on Friday when the Jackrabbits host South Dakota as a part of the Interstate Series, presented by First Interstate Bank. The Jacks and Coyotes will square off at 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings.
