South Dakota State hosts NAIA Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits are 7-2 on the season with four consecutive wins, including a top-25 win over Oregon and a pair of victories in the Summit League-Big Sky Challenge last week. Most recently, SDSU's Brooklyn Meyer dropped 32 points in a 78-70 win at Montana.
Dakota Wesleyan, rated No. 17 in the latest NAIA poll, is 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Tigers most recently topped Hastings 65-53, bouncing back from a five-point loss to No. 1 Dordt. Three Tigers score more than 10 points per game, paced by Emma Yost's 15.0 points per contest.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State kicks off a three-game homestand with Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
- The Jackrabbits are 7-2 on the season. Since dropping back-to-back games to now-No. 9/10 Duke and still unbeaten now-No. 25/RV Georgia Tech, SDSU has won four consecutive games. The Jacks have two wins over ranked opponents.
- SDSU's Brooklyn Meyer scored 32 points at Montana Saturday afternoon, a new career high and the most points in a game by a Jackrabbit since Paige Meyer scored 37 at Northern Arizona last season.
- It was the most points in regular by a Jackrabbit since Madison Guebert scored 32 at Denver in January 2017.
- SDSU has gutted out its wins this year as six of nine games have been decided by eight or fewer points. The Jacks are 5-1 in those games.
- South Dakota State was voted at the top of the College Inside Mid-Major Top 25 for the second consecutive week and is receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches polls.
- The SDSU offense is led by 17.6 points per game from Brooklyn Meyer but has six players scoring at least 6.0 points per game. Haleigh Timmer also scores in double figures - 12.6 points per game.
- SDSU is shooting better than 38 percent from the 3-point line on the year, ranking 19th in the nation. The Jacks have seven players with at least five triples this season, led by 13 from Haleigh Timmer.
- Brooklyn Meyer tallies team highs in scoring (17.6 PPG), rebounding (5.8 RPG) and blocks (0.9 BPG). She is 55 percent from the floor, one of four Jacks above 50 percent.
- Paige Meyer is doing a little bit of everything for SDSU, averaging 9.8 points, 4.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest.
