SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota State continues play at The Summit League Men's Basketball Championship at 6 p.m. on Monday when the Jackrabbits face St. Thomas in the tournament semifinals at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. SDSU won its quarterfinal matchup versus Oral Roberts on Saturday, 79-63, while St. Thomas defeated NDSU 68-58 in its quarterfinal game on Sunday.

The Jackrabbits will face the Tommies for the first time in the conference tournament. SDSU is 26-9 all-time in The Summit League Championship, while St. Thomas is playing in its second conference tournament at the Division I level, advancing to the Summit semifinals a year ago. The Jacks are 7-5 all-time in the semifinal round.

SDSU has won the last three meetings in the series against St. Thomas, though both matchups this season came by narrow margins.Â

The first contest in St. Paul on Jan. 11 saw the Jackrabbits use a 12-point scoring run to go into halftime up 39-30. St. Thomas took a 58-57 lead in the second half with 9:02 to play. The Tommies held a 77-70 margin with 2:37 left as well as a 79-74 edge with 1:33 remaining. A
Charlie Easley 3-pointer cut the margin to single digits with 1:20 to go. The Tommies went 1 of 4 at the free throw line in the game's final minute.
Zeke Mayo made a floater with 46 seconds on the clock and eventually the game-winning jumper with six seconds left to close out an 81-80 win for SDSU.

The next contest came on Senior Day for the Jacks on Feb. 24. St. Thomas closed the first half on a 7-0 run and was up 39-32 at the break. The Tommies were ahead 49-42 when SDSU went on a 10-0 run behind three consecutive three-point plays. Another 10-0 Jackrabbit run made it 60-51 and SDSU held off the Tommies late in a 77-72 win.

Mayo scored a combined 48 points against St. Thomas this season.
Luke Appel also scored double digits in both matchups. Drake Dobbs and Raheem Anthony each had double digit scoring efforts in both games versus SDSU.Â

South Dakota State looks to earn its seventh tournament championship. SDSU has previously won the Summit League Championship in 2022, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2013 and 2012. The Jacks were the regular season champs with a 12-4 mark.

SDSU is currently on a six-game winning streak heading into its semifinal contest. The stretch is its longest of the season with three separate three-game win streaks halted during the 2023-24 campaign.Â
