BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The South Dakota State men's golf team finished a top the leaderboard of the Jackrabbit Invite Saturday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Jackrabbits were paced by sophomore
Bryson Mercier, who finished with a two-stroke lead to earn medalist honors.
SDSU finished with an 868 (+4) team tally to win by three shots over UC Santa Barbara. The squad combined for 57 holes under par over the three rounds, led by 14 birdies and an eagle from Mercier.
"I am so proud of this group," said head coach
Parker Edens. "They showed so much resilience this week when faced with some serious adversity. They battled so hard for each other, it was so cool to watch. This was a major team effort and I couldn't be more proud of them. This was a big day for the program and started some great momentum for the rest of the spring season."
Mercier fired another 70 (-2) during Saturday's round, bringing his 54-hole total to 211 (-5). He rolled in five birdies on the day and posted only two holes over par. This is the first first-place finish of Mercier's career and the second top-10 finish in as many tournaments so far this spring.
"Bryson was awesome all week," Edens continued. "He has worked so hard to get to this point and has made some incredible strides since last year. This is just the beginning for him. What an awesome day to be a Jackrabbit!"
Ty Kretz was also top-10, finishing in ninth place with a 217 (+1) scorecard. He started the day with an eagle and was fairly steady throughout, going on to record a pair of birdies and three holes over par.
Tyler Seeling finished in a tie for 28th place (224, +8), followed by
Luke Honner in a tie for 34th (225, +9) and
Jonah Dohrer in a tie for 51st place (230, +14). Honner (73, +1) and Dohrer (71, -1) each had their best round of the tournament Saturday.
Blake Schaper led a group of individuals competing for SDSU. He finished in a tie for 17th place with a 221 (+5) final scorecard.

Jonah Dohrer's 51st place finish.
NOTES
- This is the first time South Dakota State has won their home tournament in Boulder City, Nevada.
- This is SDSU's first team victory since winning the Duel at the Bluffs last April in Vermillion, S.D.

The Jackrabbits will play again at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate March 25-26 in South Pittsburg, Tenn.
