Game Notes |
South Dakota State makes a trek to the Twin Cities for a single game as the Jackrabbits gear up to face Minnesota at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch between the Jacks and Gophers is set for 5 p.m.Â
Â
SDSU was originally slated to complete a three-game road trip, but the Jackrabbits' doubleheader versus Wisconsin on Tuesday was canceled. SDSU is scheduled to host its final regular season home series this upcoming weekend against St. Thomas beginning with a single game Saturday at noon, followed by a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
Â
The Jackrabbits sit at 27-18 overall and 11-0 in Summit League play. SDSU takes a 14-game winning streak, the fourth longest active stretch in the country behind Saint Francis, Stony Brook and Lehigh, into the meeting against the Gophers. Minnesota has a 23-21 overall record and is in the middle of the Big Ten standings with a 9-9 mark. The Jacks are 3-8 all-time against Minnesota with their last win over the Gophers coming in 2007 in Minneapolis. SDSU lost a neutral-site game to Minnesota in Wichita last year, 9-5, in March.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits are off to a double-digit game undefeated start in Summit League action for the second straight season. SDSU began the league stretch with a doubleheader sweep of South Dakota. The Jacks then beat North Dakota in a three-game series, which was originally scheduled for Brookings, but played in Council Bluffs, Iowa, due to weather. SDSU held its first true home series and swept Kansas City in three games, then traveled up Interstate-29 and earned a series sweep over North Dakota State its last time out.
Â
The Jackrabbits have won 44 straight league games in regular season action dating back to the 2022 season. Following Oklahoma's series defeat at the hands of Texas two weeks ago, SDSU now owns the longest active streak of regular season conference wins in Division I softball.
Â
SDSU has been carried at the plate this season by the players that make up the top three spots in its order for a majority of its season.
Mia Jarecki,
Emma Osmundson and
Lindsey Culver all have taken turns carrying the Jacks with their bats. Culver leads The Summit League individuals in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, home runs and RBIs. Osmundson leads the conference in doubles (16) which is 11th in the country. Jarecki sits atop the league in runs and hits.Â
Â
The Jacks continue to get strong pitching in Summit League play. Though
Tori Kniesche gave up her first runs of conference action versus the Roos, she sports a 0.16 ERA in seven starts.
Shannon Lasey has been solid in four starts in conference action as she's accumulated a 3-0 record and 1.08 ERA.Â
Â
Kniesche has continued her reign of Summit League TicketSmarter Peak Pitcher of the Week honors. She has earned the accolades four straight weeks and a total of five times this season. Kniesche has now been the conference's pitcher of the week 18 times in her career.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits have also had three of the last four Peak Performers of the Week they've been eligible for the award.
Emma Osmundson began the season claiming the honors. In the last four weeks, earning the accolades for the Jacks for their performances at the plate include Jarecki,
Brooke Dumont and Culver.Â
Â
SDSU returns home following its Big Ten road trip. The Jacks are slated to host St. Thomas in Brookings from April 27-28, then end the regular season with a series at Omaha. SDSU hosts The Summit League Championship starting on May 8.
