BROOKINGS, S.D - Behind a 30-point outing from
Brooklyn Meyer, the South Dakota State women's basketball team topped North Dakota 87-73 Saturday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits improve to 15-3 on the season and 5-0 in Summit League games while stretching their regular-season Summit League win streak to 52 games. UND falls to 8-11 overall and 3-3 in conference games.
A big first quarter was the difference for the Jacks. SDSU outscored UND 26-14 in the opening period, then only 61-59 the rest of the way.
Haleigh Timmer and
Madison Mathiowetz each knocked down multiple 3-pointers in the first four minutes, forcing an early UND timeout at 14-7. SDSU kept its foot on the gas through the first to lead by 14 after 10 minutes.
A 10-point run in the second quarter put SDSU ahead by 18 points, but the Hawks hung around over the rest of the contest and cut its deficit to just five, 74-69, with less than five minutes to play. Following an SDSU timeout, the Jacks forced three turnovers and
Brooklyn Meyer scored seven straight points to put the home team up by double-digits again at 83-71. From there the sides traded buckets to the final buzzer.
Brooklyn Meyer's 30 points came on 11-of-17 field goal shooting and an 8-for-9 mark from the free throw line. She put up 11 points in the fourth quarter alone. Meyer also finished with three rebounds and two blocks.
Mathiowetz recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Jacks. Timmer added 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Paige Meyer posted the first double-double of her career as she tallied 11 points and 10 assists to go with a pair of steals. It is the first points-assists double-double in at least SDSU's Division I era.
Kallie Theisen and
Katie Vasecka scored seven points apiece.
Mesa Byom chipped in six points and matched the game highs with eight boards and two blocks.
The Jackrabbits shot above 50 percent - .532 - for the fourth straight game and for the eighth time this season. SDSU hit a season-high .882 from the free throw line.
The Fighting Hawks also had four players in double figures, led by Jocelyn Schiller with 19 points.

- Led by Brooklyn Meyer's 11 points, the Meyers and Mathiowetz combined for SDSU's 19 fourth-quarter points.
- The Jackrabbits tallied 21 assists as a team and committed a season-low six turnovers.
- Paige Meyer's 10 assists is a season high. Her career high is 11 assists, which she set last season against Oral Roberts.
- Brooklyn Meyer is the fourth Jackrabbit in history with two 30-point games in the same season. She scored 32 at Montana earlier this year.
