ST. PAUL, Minn. - The South Dakota State women's basketball team put together a fourth-quarter rally to beat St. Thomas 83-76 Wednesday night at Schoenecker Arena.
SDSU trailed 62-58 after three periods, then went on a 13-0 run to start the fourth. The Jacks took the lead for the first time on a
Kallie Theisen layup at 6:19 and held off the Tommies down the stretch.
Brooklyn Meyer and
Katie Vasecka finished with 21 and 20 points, respectively, to pace the Jackrabbits. Meyer was 10-of-13 from the field and added six rebounds, two assists and two blocks to her stat line. Vasecka chipped in three rebounds and a block.
Madison Mathiowetz tallied 13 points for the Jackrabbits on a 4-of-5 shooing.
Paige Meyer rounded out the Jacks in double figures with a near-triple-double as she recorded 10 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. She also had three steals and a block.
Mesa Byom posted 11 boards and a career-high six assists. Theisen added seven points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. The redshirt senior surpassed 600 rebounds for her career in the contest.
The Tommies started strong, shooting 80 percent in the opening quarter to lead 29-21 after 10 minutes. SDSU worked back to within five at halftime, 45-40. The Jacks stayed within striking distance through the third, then rallied in the fourth. Byom put up the first four points of the fourth quarter, then Theisen put away a layup for the 64-62 lead.
Katie Vasecka put together a 7-point stretch on her own to put the Jacks ahead nine, 72-62, with 4:08 to play. SDSU maintained at least a six-point lead the rest of the way.
As a team, SDSU shot above 50 percent for the fifth straight game and ninth time this season. The Jacks tallied a 44-28 advantage in rebounding, including a 16-8 edge on the offensive glass that resulted in 17 second chance points.
The Jackrabbits improve to 16-3 on the season and 6-0 in Summit League action.
St. Thomas was led by Amber Scalia's 23 points and eight assists. Jo Langbehn and Jade Hill scored 17 points apiece. The Tommies fall to 9-10 overall and 1-5 in conference games.

- Katie Vasecka scored at least 20 points for the second time this year. Prior to this season, the last time a Jackrabbit scored at least 20 points off the bench was in 2020.
