BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State women's basketball team outlasted North Dakota State Wednesday night, topping the Bison 63-55 in front of 4,156 fans at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits outscored the Bison 24-14 in the fourth quarter behind a combined 15 points from
Brooklyn Meyer and
Paige Meyer. Tied at 55-all with three minutes to play, SDSU ended the game with eight unanswered points to secure its 55th consecutive win in the Summit League regular season.
The fourth quarter alone featured six ties and five lead changes as the sides went back-and-forth.
Katie Vasecka gave the Jacks their final lead of the night with a go-ahead 3-pointer that made it 58-55, then
Paige Meyer finished a tough layup followed by three
Mesa Byom free throws down the stretch.
Brooklyn Meyer finished with 24 points to lead all players. She was joined in double figures by
Haleigh Timmer and
Paige Meyer, who posted 13 points apiece. Byom grabbed 10 rebounds and dished four assists, both team highs.
Kallie Theisen blocked two shots.
The Jackrabbits trailed 15-13 after the opening 10 minutes, but put together an 18-0 run and held the Bison to only five points in the second to lead 31-20 at halftime. The Bison turned the tide in the third, knocking down four straight triples during a 14-0 run and led 41-39 with one period remaining.
Paige Meyer and
Brooklyn Meyer led the charge over the final 10 minutes as SDSU went 7-for-12 from the floor and forced four Bison turnovers to outlast the visitors.
SDSU finished the game shooting 46 percent while NDSU shot 38 percent. The Jacks had three 3-pointers, all in the fourth quarter.
Abby Schulte and Abbie Draper scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for NDSU.
NOTES
- SDSU has won 23 straight games against NDSU and is 64-39 against the Bison all-time.
- Kallie Theisen moves into sole possession of fifth place on SDSU's career blocks chart with 120.
