South Dakota State and Omaha kick off the second half of the Summit season at Baxter Arena Saturday afternoon in Omaha. These teams have already met this year, with the Jackrabbits winning 93-55 at First Bank & Trust Arena back on January 8.
The Jackrabbits are 18-3 on the season with an 8-0 mark in Summit League action. Following the first half of conference games, SDSU leads the Summit in a number of categories, including scoring margin (18.0 PPG), field goal percentage (.511), rebounding margin (9.9 RPG) and assist/turnover ratio (1.46).
Omaha is 9-12 on the season with only a 1-7 mark in conference games. Since topping North Dakota in their Summit opener, the Mavericks have dropped seven straight contests. Omaha scores 61.3 PPG and gives up 76.3 PPG, both the worst marks in the conference.
KEY STORYLINES
- SDSU finished up the first half of the Summit slate at 8-0 and heads to Omaha to take on the Mavericks, who currently sit at the bottom of the standings with a 1-7 record.
- The Jackrabbits used a second half surge to win the first meeting of the season 93-55 behind a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double for Brooklyn Meyer.
- SDSU is the top ranked team in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Poll and is receiving votes in both the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll.
- SDSU has five players scoring at least 10.0 PPG in conference action - Brooklyn Meyer, Madison Mathiowetz, Haleigh Timmer, Paige Meyer and Katie Vasecka. The Jackrabbits are one of six teams in the country with that distinction.
- Brooklyn Meyer averages 17.4 PPG and is shooting .622 on the season, which ranks 11th in the country. She has seven 20+ point games this year, including five of the last seven.
- Paige Meyer dishes 5.8 assists per game in Summit League action, which leads the conference. She has dished at least seven assists in four of the last five games.
- South Dakota State's .476 overall field goal percentage ranks 14th in country. The Jackrabbits have shot at least 50 percent nine times this season.
- SDSU has won 55 straight Summit League regular season games. That streak ranks top 10 in NCAA history for consecutive regular season conference victories.
- Haleigh Timmer has scored 989 points in her SDSU career. She needs 11 to become the 44th Jackrabbit to score 1,000. She would be the third active Jackrabbit to reach 1K, joining Paige Meyer and Brooklyn Meyer.
- With 18 wins this year, SDSU is closing in on its 14th straight 20-win season. In AJ's career, SDSU has won at least 20 all but three years.
