South Dakota State closes out its regular season on the road this week as the Jackrabbits travel south on Interstate 29. SDSU will face Kansas City on Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. match at Oral Roberts on Sunday.Â
The Jackrabbits currently sit at 9-2-5 overall and 3-1-2 in Summit League play. Their 11 points earned in conference action ranks third in the league standings. SDSU has already clinched a spot in the upcoming Summit League Women's Soccer Championship. ORU and Kansas City, along with Denver and South Dakota, have also clinched their spots in the conference tournament. Seeding is still up for grabs while the final spot comes down to Omaha (2-3-1/7 points) and North Dakota (1-4-2/5 points).
SDSU most recently played South Dakota to a scoreless draw in Vermillion on Saturday. It was the third time in the previous four regular season meetings between the two sides that the result ended in a tie. The Jackrabbits lead that all-time series by a 10-6-4 margin.
The Jackrabbits sit just one point ahead of Kansas City on the league table. The Roos have won three straight contests to jump up the standings and qualify for the postseason tournament. Kansas City is 8-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Summit League play.Â
The Jacks earned a 1-0 victory over the Roos last season in Brookings. The last time the two foes met in Kansas City they competed to a scoreless draw.Â
SDSU eventually plays its regular season finale on Sunday at Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles sit atop of the conference table with a 5-0-1 record (16 points). ORU, which is 11-3-2 overall, hosts North Dakota State Thursday before welcoming SDSU to Tulsa.Â
The Jackrabbits and Golden Eagles have plenty of recent history. SDSU defeated ORU in last season's regular season finale, 1-0, in Brookings. The teams eventually met in the conference championship match with the Jacks coming away with a 3-1 win in Fargo. It was SDSU's second straight tournament crown.
SDSU's last visit to ORU saw the Jacks and Golden Eagles tie 1-1 in 2023. However, SDSU holds an 18-1-3 all-time series lead.
