South Dakota State makes its opening appearance of the 2025 Summit League Women's Soccer Championship on its home pitch Saturday at 5 p.m. The Jackrabbits host Omaha at Fishback Soccer Park in the conference tournament quarterfinal round.
The Jackrabbits completed their regular season with a 10-2-6 overall record. Their 3-2 victory over Oral Roberts last Sunday ended SDSU's Summit League record with a 4-1-3 mark and 15 points in the conference table. The Jacks finished third in the regular season standings for the second straight season and set themselves up to host a quarterfinal matchup.Â
Omaha placed sixth in the league standings with a 3-4-1 record (6-8-4 overall) and used a late goal in their finale to qualify for the league tournament. The Mavericks were tied 1-1 against Kansas City in Omaha last Sunday. A draw would have led to North Dakota taking the final spot in the tournament with the Fighting Hawks holding a goal differential tiebreaker. Instead, Omaha's Addie LaRock delivered a game-winner in the 83rd minute to seal the Mavs' spot in The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship.Â
The two sides compete Saturday for the chance to move into the tournament semifinals which are hosted by Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles are the No. 1 seed and await the winner of No. 4 South Dakota/No. 5 Kansas City. The winner of SDSU versus Omaha will play No. 2 Denver on Thursday, Nov. 6, in Tulsa.
The Jackrabbits head into postseason play as the back-to-back Summit League tournament champions. SDSU is 5-0-3 all-time in the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed. SDSU and Omaha's last meeting in the postseason was in 2023 when the championship match, heavily affected by windy conditions, went 1-0 in favor of South Dakota State. The year prior, Omaha defeated SDSU 1-0 in Brookings in the semifinals. The Mavs went on to win the 2022 title. Omaha also earned a 3-1 semifinal victory in 2018 and got a 3-1 penalty kick advacement in the spring of 2021.
The Jacks defeated Omaha, 3-1, previously at Fishback Soccer Park this season on Oct. 12. The Mavericks scored a goal in the 18th minute, then SDSU responded with three second half goals.
