BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State women's soccer extended its unbeaten streak on Sunday with a convincing 2-0 victory over North Dakota State at Fishback Soccer Park.Â
The Jackrabbits dominated possession in the opening half. After registering the first six shots of the game, SDSU's seventh put the Jacks ahead on the scoreboard.Â
SDSU freshman
Jenna Maloy ran past the NDSU back line on a deep pass from defender
Lauren Eckerle. She gathered the ball at her feet at the top of the box and booted a shot past the incoming Bison keeper, giving the Jackrabbits a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute.Â
The Jackrabbits took the 1-0 edge into halftime and held on to that tally for a majority of the second half. NDSU's best opportunity came in the 78th minute. The Bison sent a cross into the box to reigning Summit League Offensive Player of the Year Morgan Russmann. Her ensuing header was saved by Jackrabbit goalkeeper
Mallorie Benhart.Â
South Dakota State put the game out of reach in the 81st minute.
Deizha Lyn Jacinto worked through the NDSU defense off a throw in. She passed the ball into the middle of the box where Maloy one-timed a shot just inside the right post, giving the Jackrabbits the 2-0 advantage.Â
SDSU thwarted any other NDSU chances from there as the Jacks closed out a 2-0 Summit League victory. The win improved the Jackrabbits to 8-1-4 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play. The Bison dropped to 5-9-0 (1-3-0).
