DANBURY, Conn. — South Dakota State's Kayla Scherer has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Equestrian Rider of the Week for Flat.
A junior from Fort Collins, Colorado, Scherer won both her matchups in head-to-head competitions against ECAC opponents as the Jackrabbits opened the season with a 2-0 mark for the first time in program history. Scherer earned Most Outstanding Performer honors after winning her Oct. 3 matchup on Elton against Anna Rajski of Minnesota Crookston, 83-63.
To close out the opening weekend, Scherer posted a 70-65 victory on Annie versus UT Martin's Lydia Jordan.
SDSU moved into the top 10 of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's rankings for the first time in four years after their two victories last week. The 10th-ranked Jackrabbits travel to ninth-ranked Fresno State on Friday, followed by a head-to-head competition Saturday at UC Davis.
