South Dakota State opens the season on the road at Creighton Monday night in Omaha.
The Jackrabbits are coming off a 30-4 season that ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the hands of eventual-champion UConn. Creighton went 26-7 in 2024-25. The Bluejays lost to UConn in the Big East championship game but received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Creighton fell to Illinois in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Combined, these rosters feature six upperclassmen and 17 underclassmen.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State and Creighton will meet in non-conference action for the 14th straight season and 18th time overall Monday night in the season opener for both teams. This season's meeting features a combined six upperclassmen and 17 underclassmen between the Jackrabbits and Bluejays.
- South Dakota State enters 2025-26 with nine returners from last season's NCAA Tournament team, including All-America honorable mention Brooklyn Meyer.
- Brooklyn Meyer was named to the preseason watch lists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award and the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award. She is also the Summit League's preseason player of the year.
- SDSU had four players named to the Summit League's preseason teams. Brooklyn Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz were first-team honorees while Katie Vasecka and Maggie Hartwig landed on the second team.
- Three returning SDSU players averaged at least eight points per game a season ago. Brooklyn Meyer scored 17.0 points per contest to go with 5.9 rebounds. Madison Mathiowetz and Katie Vasecka contributed 8.9 and 8.4 points per game, respectively.
- Maggie Hartwig, a transfer from Evansville, put up 16.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore with the Aces last season. She was the only out-of-conference transfer recognized on the preseason all-Summit teams.
- The Jackrabbits are receiving votes in the preseason AP Top 25 and WBCA Coaches Poll. SDSU is ranked first in the College Insider Mid-Major poll.
- SDSU has three AP ranked teams on its non-conference slate - No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Duke and No. 11 North Carolina. Kansas State and Columbia are receiving votes.
