South Dakota State returns home for the first of two consecutive games in First Bank & Trust Arena. The Jackrabbits host Peru State first on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Jackrabbits come off a two-game road stretch featuring two high-quality foes. SDSU took on Northern Iowa last Sunday followed by a Wednesday contest at Oregon.Â
SDSU had a two-point lead midway through the first half of its matchup at Northern Iowa, but the Panthers took over for the remainder of the game in a 65-58 victory. The Panthers are in the top 10 of the most recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 rankings.
The Jacks got out to a six-point lead in the early moments of their clash in Eugene against the Ducks. Oregon, which is receiving polls in both national polls, got out to a nine-point lead in the first half. SDSU trailed by 11 before responding. The Jacks trailed by one on two separate occasions with less than 10 minutes remaining, and down six with three minutes left, but the Ducks were able to close the game out for an 83-69 win.
Multiple players have stepped up for SDSU of late. The game at UNI saw
Damon Wilkinson record his first-career double-double. He registered career highs in points (16) and rebounds (10).
Luke Haertle played a season-high 25 minutes in SDSU's defeat at Oregon. He logged season highs in points (14) and rebounds (6).
Caleb Delzell played a season-high 23 minutes at Oregon and tied for the team-lead six rebounds. He also scored five points.
The last two games have seen
Joe Sayler finish as the Jackrabbits' leading scorer. He's scored a combined 30 points on 13-for-28 shooting to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
South Dakota State and Peru State have squared off twice prior. SDSU holds a 1-0 lead in the series during its Division I era. The Jacks hosted the Bobcats on Nov. 7, 2019, and won 86-58.
Peru State is 4-4 overall this season. The Bobcats are led by fourth-year coach Roman Gentry who is 71-33 guiding the program. He has led the squad to three straight NAIA national tournament showings as head coach.
