BOSTON – Three Jackrabbits put together strong performances, with two new program records set, as SDSU track and field completed its showing at the 2025-26 Boston University Season Opener on Saturday.Â
Â
The trio of
Meghan Ford,
Eleni Lovgren and
Cody Larson all traveled to the East Coast to participate in a stacked field of 5,000-meter runners.Â
Â
Ford got the day started for the Jackrabbits. She ran in the third heat of the women's event and posted the 14th fastest mark of 16 minutes, 4.34 seconds. Overall, that time placed Ford among the top 50 runners in an elite field of competitors.Â
Â
Her mark also set a new SDSU benchmark. Ford's time shattered the previous program indoor record of 16:29.88 established by Rachel King in 2018.Â
Â
Lovgren continued SDSU's efforts in the women's 5,000. She competed in the seventh heat of the event and finished 18th behind a time of 16:56.48. Lovgren's mark was a personal best indoors and moved her to 10th on the SDSU all-time top 10 list.Â
Â
Larson toed the line in the second heat of the men's 5,000. The current program record holder in the event indoors, the SDSU standout finished his heat 16th clocking in at 13:48.65. His time also finished among the top 50 individuals overall. Larson topped his Jackrabbit record by more than seven seconds. It previously stood at 13:55.99.
Â
"It a was a great day with two school records," said
Rod DeHaven, SDSU's Bargmann Endowed Head Coach for Track & Field/Cross Country. "No doubt our student athletes wanted more on the day, but the experience will make them that much better when a similar opportunity presents itself."
Â
The South Dakota State track and field program closed its 2025 portion of its competition calendar on Saturday. SDSU returns to action on January 17, 2026, at the USD Alumni Meet in Vermillion.Â
