"It was a good day for the Jackrabbits. We got to do some different events this weekend and I think we excelled at a lot of that. I think people took advantage of the competition we have here. It was a nice, positive step forward."
THE MEN
The jumpers had a great outing at the SDSU Open. Hudson Schroeder leaped a second-best 22-10.75 (6.98m) to finish third in the long jump. Isaac Flanegan finished behind Schroeder in fourth with a mark of 22-06.25 (6.86m).
Grayson Ring and Brooks Holen dominated the high jump as the pair finished first and second, respectively. Ring leaped over 6-06.75 (2.00m), while Holen finished at 6-04.75 (1.95m). Ryan Benson also competed in the high jump, posting a top-five finish with a mark of 6-02.75 (1.90m).
Ryan Karajanis represented the Jackrabbits in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared 14-11.00 (4.55m) to take bronze.
Sam Castle posted another top-10 program performance, this time in the 600-meter race. Castle finished third with a time of 1:20.04 to become the third-best 600-meter performer in SDSU history.
The distance team saw some stellar performances throughout the night. Joe Dustin showed his speed in the 800-meter as the freshman finished third with a time of 1:54.49. Jackson Dutcher made his mark in the top-10 list as the sophomore won the 1000-meter with a time of 2:26.04 to become the third-fastest performer in program history.
South Dakota State dominated in the mile race as the top three finishers were Jackrabbits. Carson Noecker led the way with a 4:10.77 finish, a new personal record. Cashton Johnson and Dale Johnson cruised in behind Noecker, crossing the line at 4:13.36 and 4:18.43, respectively.
Ty Brouwer and Tyler O'Neil competed in the mile as well. Brouwer took eighth with a time of 4:24.08, while O'Neil crossed the line at 4:24.32 to finish ninth.
The 4x400m relay put on a show to end the night. Reggie Slaba, Kudra Nzibariza, and Thailan Hallman finished runner-up with a time of 3:14.56, the third-fastest 4x400m run in program history.
THE WOMEN
Brielle Dixon showed up and showed out at the SDSU Open. Dixon won the 60-meter hurdles with her second-best time of 8.31, just 0.01 second away from her personal record. Later in the night, Dixon and Jaiden Boomsma finished first and second, respectively, in the 60-meter dash. Dixon once again posted a second-best time of 7.56, while Boomsma clocked a time of 7.64.
Boomsma also represented the Jacks in the long jump. The senior leaped 19-02.50 (5.85m) to win the event. Cadence Nuttbrock competed in the long jump as well, finishing sixth with a mark of 16-06.50 (5.04m).
Maggie Madsen clutched bronze in the 200-meter race with a time of 24.94, her second-best. Jenna Johnson had another great race following her program record in the 300 hurdles the night before. Johnson finished fifth in the 200-meter with a time of 25.08 to become the ninth-fastest performer in program history.
Jalyn Shepherd posted a personal record of 52-02.75 (15.92m) to place in the top five in the weight throw. Lydia Hill, Kirsten Kilker and Josie Curry competed as well. Hill threw a mark of 51-03.00 (15.62m) to take seventh. Kilker finished in the top 10 with a throw of 49-00.25 (14.94m), while Curry took 13th with a mark of 47-05.75 (14.47m).
The women's distance team continues to impress as six Jackrabbits made their mark in SDSU's Top 10 All-Time list. Lindsey Rotz, Claire Beckman, Reese Luze, and Hannah Spoden finished first through fourth in the 500-meter race. Rotz won the race with a time of 1:16.01 to become the second-fastest performer in program history. Beckman finished less than a second behind her to take her place as the third-fastest performer. Luze crossed the line at 1:17.19 to take fourth on the all-time list. Spoden cruised across the line at 1:17.69 to make her mark as the seventh-fastest performer in SDSU history.
The 1000-meter race was exciting for the Jackrabbits as Grace Waage clocked a new program record of 2:50.30 to take gold. Kayla Christopherson finished third at 2:54.72 to become the fourth-fastest 1000-meter performer in program history.
Emma Gonzalez took silver in the mile race with her second-best time of 5:06.90. Nina Dawson, Halle Bauer, and Nicole Swanson ran with her. Dawson placed seventh with a time of 5:13.78. Bauer finished in the top 10 with a time of 5:18.24, while Swanson crossed the line at 5:21.61 to take 11th.
UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits hit the road as half the team attends the Bison Open Feb. 7-8, while the rest of the squad competes against Power Four competitors at the ISU Classic on Saturday, Feb. 8.
