South Dakota State makes its final road trip of the regular season to take on Kansas City Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Center. The Jacks won the first meeting of the year 78-61 at home at First Bank & Trust Arena.
Both teams in this matchup rank top-three in the Summit League in 3-point percentage, rebounds per game, opponent rebounds per game and turnover margin.
The Jackrabbits are 23-3 on the season with an unbeaten 13-0 record in the Summit League. Their defense allows only 60.8 points per conference game and have a 18.3 PPG average scoring margin, both the best marks in the League. SDSU is also shooting better than 50 percent in League action, the only conference team doing so.
Kansas City is 10-18 overall and 6-7 in conference games. The Roos are coming off a 91-82 home win over St. Thomas Thursday night. KC has two players averaging at least 10 points per game - Alayna Contreras (16.5 PPG) and Emani Bennett (15.9 PPG).
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State clinched at least a share of the Summit League regular season title with last weekend's win over South Dakota. The Jacks have won at least a share of the title five straight times and in six of the last seven seasons.
- SDSU is ranked No. 24 in the WBCA Coaches Poll for the second straght week and is ranked in the poll for the fourth time this season. The Jacks are receiving votes in the AP Poll and is the unanimous No. 1 in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Poll.
- Brooklyn Meyer, a Top 10 Candidate for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award, scores 17.0 points per game overall at a .633 clip (sixth in the country). In conference games, she averages 17.4 PPG while shooting .693.
- Paige Meyer needs two assists to take sole possession of fifth place on SDSU's all-time assists career chart. That would also make her SDSU's career assists leader for the Divsion I era.
- In the second half of Summit action (since Feb. 1), Paige Meyer is averaging 14.8 points, 6.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds while shooting .439.
- SDSU's balanced offense has had 13 games this season where at least four players have scored at least 10 points. In conference games, five Jackrabbits are averaging at least 10 points - Brooklyn Meyer, Haleigh Timmer, Paige Meyer, Katie Vasecka and Madison Mathiowetz.
- SDSU's .479 overall field goal percentage ranks eighth in country. The Jackrabbits have shot at least 50 percent 12 times this season.
- The Jackrabbits have won at least 20 games in 14 consecutive seasons. Coach Johnston has only three seasons without 20 wins on his resume in his 25 year career.
- SDSU has won 60 straight Summit League regular season games. That streak ranks top 10 in NCAA history for consecutive regular season conference victories. The Jacks are 78-1 in the Summit League regular season going back to the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
